Oklahoma City Bombing Tapes Surface Edited?

As reported by the AP, carried by Yahoo News:

OKLAHOMA CITY — Long-secret security tapes showing the chaos immediately after the 1995 bombing of the Oklahoma City federal building are blank in the minutes before the blast and appear to have been edited, an attorney who obtained the recordings said Sunday. “The real story is what’s missing,” said Jesse Trentadue, a Salt Lake City attorney who obtained the recordings through the federal Freedom of Information Act as part of an unofficial inquiry he is conducting into the April 19, 1995, bombing that killed 168 people and injured hundreds more.

Y'know…I really didn't think that was the case at first. Frankly, I hate slovenly hicks who call themselves patriots and pretty much only preach arrogance while strutting around armed to the teeth, but moments like this make me question my own beliefs and hunger for better answers. I'd love to see those missing minutes for myself and make up my own mind, but what I resent is that now I cant.

Earlier this week, the Associated Press published an article about recently-released surveillance tapes from the area around the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. Wanting to find out more about it, I sought out Jayna Davis, author of The New York Times best-selling book,”The Third Terrorist,” which chronicled her decade-long investigation of the bombing and who was behind it. In short, I became the first journalist/blogger with whom Davis has spoken about the case in four years (and she's had countless requests for interviews).

On Tuesday, I followed up my interview of Davis with an interview of David P. Schippers, a Chicago attorney and close confidant of Davis whose background includes having served as chief investigative counsel for the Clinton Impeachment Hearings in the House and Senate. Again, I was able to publish information never before published about the missing Oklahoma City bombing surveillance tapes. All of these copyrighted pieces are available at http://bobmccarty.com.

Y'know…while I do love a good anti Clinton era rant, since he was a career sleaze monger and glad handling snake oil salesman extraordinaire, I did notice that your site seems to have an 8 year gap where blame never gets laid. It wasn't really surprising to see this, since the vast majority of ads and links on your pages seem to favor one very special point of view, which adheres with blinders firmly in place to the belief that all people ideologically opposed to todays weakkneed, criminally inclined neo-con thugs must be evil incarnate and deserving of any fate, no matter how horrifying.

Good on you for tracking down the author and getting a good interview, since its all good questions in need of answers, and I've been looking up the source material and finding it very worthwhile…but just by way of appreciation, let me leave you with this one thought.

If you've already made up your mind regarding what is truth, and the microscope of your attention is focused intently upon only those things which affirm your beliefs, but never falls upon anything that might shake them, you will inevitably draw only the conclusions that please you, disregarding all things that might move you toward a more accurate result. If you value accuracy, truth, and freedom as genuinely as you seem to, use a little more care in the process of making tenuous links between events and their relationship and your personal dislikes. It will pay off noty only for you, but also for everyone who reads your work.

      Be well. V

Editing tapes huh. Sounds like the Nixon years. I wonder what the excuse will be this time.

  • jonathanstatski

Do these tapes show who did it? I know someone was convicted of this, but were others involved?
