The Mecca Diaries: Vice Goes To Mecca for Hajj

As most of us finish off yesterday’s turkey, Muslims around the world celebrate their own holiday today with end of the Hajj, which is called Eid. To mark the occasion today on VBS is The Mecca Diaries. Last year VICE founder Suroosh Alvi documented his own religious and cultural whirlwind homage to Mecca.

Surreal is right. I am glad that he did this very respectfully, but a little twisted on the dialog.

The shot of the Hotels, and the construction cranes. There is a *MASSIVE* construction operation in Mecca, both with the second tallest building in the world, as well as some enormous complexes. ( Just for comparison, the IBM Building in Bocca Raton is 4M sq ft, the pentagon is 3.7M sq ft, and Abraj Al Bait Towers is 16.15M sq feet, so the hotel complex in Mecca, will be larger than twice the floor space of the Pentagon, and the IBM Building in Bocca Raton. TWICE!! )
