Gingers (redheads) extinct in 100 years

Via news.com.au:

Redheads are becoming rarer and could be extinct in 100 years, according to genetic scientists. The current National Geographic magazine reports that less than two per cent of the world’s population has natural red hair, created by a mutation in northern Europe thousands of years ago.

Global intermingling, which broadens the availability of possible partners, has reduced the chances of redheads meeting and producing little redheads of their own.

It takes only one red-haired parent to produce ginger-headed babies, but two redheads obviously create a much stronger possibility.

If the gingers really want to save themselves they should move to Scotland. An estimated 40 per cent of Scots carry the red gene and 13 per cent actually have red hair.

Some experts say that redheads could be gone as early as 2060, but others say the gene can be dormant for generations before returning. National Geographic says the gene at first had the beneficial effect of increasing the body’s ability to make vitamin D from sunlight.

However, today’s carriers are more prone to skin cancer and have a higher sensitivity to heat and cold-related pain.

I’m a redhead and the only thing I really care about that’s in this article that we’re constantly referred to as “gingers”

I hate this term. We are redheads, not a spice. If any other redhead thinks like me then they’re probably happy we’re going to be extinct so on April Fool’s Day redheads won’t constantly be told their hair is on fire or having their name become “Ginger” instead of the name their mother and father gave them.

This is of course nothing more than simple racism.  The same has been said for years about a myriad of other genetic types that some people have disliked.  Right now “gingers” are one of those disliked genetic types especially in the U.K. where the problem has been around for a while as a result of the English bigotry towards the Scottish and Irish.  The funny thing is that just a month or so ago this same article came out saying Redheads would be extinct in 50 years.  I suppose that the pseudo-scientists involved realized that they very well might be alive in 50 years and could actually be held accountable while they were still alive. What I’m trying to say is I’ll bet anyone any amount of real money obviously payable to our offspring or trust accounts that you are 100% wrong.  I’ll even give you odds.  Why?  Population is growing not shrinking.  Red hair is NOT as recessive a gene as black or blonde hair.  Which means that even though these populations are larger the red hair gene will always remain present in these populations and pop up as dominant during racial mixes.  Unfortunately when people don’t know science they simply believe whatever pseudo science they believe especially if it conforms to a pre conformed bigotry.

How to spot a GMO (genetically modified organism) in the grocery store

Very interesting. Who knew? Are you eating Genetically Modified Foods? Do you know how to tell? I recently found out that you can easily tell whether the produce you purchase...
