Monsanto: The #1 Most Unethical Company In The World

Grace Kiser writes on the Huffington Post:

Can ethics be quantified? Or, better yet, can a lack of ethics be quantified?

This week, the Swiss research firm Covalence released its annual ranking of the overall ethical performance of multinational corporations. The idea behind the Covalence research is that there’s value — both for companies and consumers — in measuring corporations against an ethical standard. (We’re hoping this idea also applies to Wall Street firms.)

Monsanto

Monsanto, the Missouri-based agriculture giant, ranked dead last in the Covalence ethical index. The company, which leads the world in the production of genetically-engineered seed, has been subject to myriad criticisms. Among them: the company is accused of frequently and unfairly suing small farmers for patent infringement.

I didn't need a fancy research firm to tell me that. If you watch “The future of food” or “The world according to Monsanto” it's pretty clear that Monsanto contributes about zero to the public good. I'd always thought of large corporations as power and money focused without conscience but it wasn't until I found out about Monsanto that I saw a company could actually be evil. This is a company that needs to go away permanently.

    I'll second that, honu.

What about all of the good they do? Drought resistant crops are something they are working on and are having much sucess with. What about the “Golden Rice” that prevents blindness and other crops bred to give increased nutrition to prevent other health problems? What about the increased yields? Or are you in the Malthusian camp that says let the poor starve to death as a population check in some social darwinistic eugenics scheme? The “evidence” for global warming is not the strongest..however I am not willing to throw out the baby with the bathwater due to bad science and political agendas.

Stacey there is no food shortage so please research this the problem it is not about food production it is about availability. Secondly, the claims of golden rice you make well it is no different than any other gmo claim – it is misleading, do you know how much of this food you would have to eat to get the nutrition from it they claim? Geez you're skin would probably turn yellow before your eyesight was corrected. The climate change/population control/food security issue is propoganda to make people like you think GMO is the only solution to all of this. It's not… there are tons of solutions that are out there that are safe and sustainable. GMO is not either of those things. It is contaminating all non gmo crops, soil, water, insects, animals, marine life, humans and air. Do some research please – don't buy into the bs they are trying to sell you. I am not saying the environment isn't messed right up but the answers your being given are lies so are the solutions. Control the oil control the nations, control the food you control the people – Henry Kissinger. Gmo could destroy our eco system, destroy all living things by way of disease and mutation, it takes away the freedom to choose what you eat and lacks long term independant testing putting your health and the health of your offspring at risk. There is an agenda here please see through it and protect yourself

    fuck Monsanto.

What about the the herbicide resistant weeds their chemicals have now created? What about the 'new and improved' herbicide to kill the new super weeds? What about the chain reaction – that Nature will continue to create resistant bugs and plants until it's OBVIOUS we should have stopped it way before. What about the DNA alteration in GE foods that have been proven to alter human DNA? What about the fact that science is moving faster than our bodies can adapt, leaving us with potential crisis down the road – remember Agent Orange? DDT? Mad Cow (30 year incubation). What about the hungry that have still never been fed – BECAUSE they can't afford it anyway, and Monsanto wouldn't dare GIVE it away. What about the crops that poor countries farm for Monsanto, and then watch the food leave? What about Monsanto buying out non-gmo seed companies and taking those seeds out of the system? What gets people the most: how utterly brainwashed their employees are.

I have a saying: no one is more dangerous than a man with a conscious but no vision.

All the people who work for Monsanto should be shamed and alienated by those who know them. It is disgusting that corporations doing harm to humans have no trouble finding people to employ. Where are their ethics, morals, and conscience?
