Scientologists Using Touch to ‘Heal’ Haitian Earthquake Victims

Charles Onians writes on the AP via Yahoo News:

Scientology Touch Healing in HaitiPORT-AU-PRINCE — Amid the mass of aid agencies piling in to help Haiti quake victims is a batch of Church of Scientology “volunteer ministers”, claiming to use the power of touch to reconnect nervous systems.

Clad in yellow T-shirts emblazoned with the logo of the controversial US-based group, smiling volunteers fan out among the injured lying under makeshift shelters in the courtyard of Port-au-Prince’s General Hospital.

A wealthy private donor provided his airplane to fly in 80 volunteers from Los Angeles, along with 50 Haitian-American-doctors, in a gesture worth 400,000 dollars, said a Parisian volunteer who gave her name as Sylvie.

“We’re trained as volunteer ministers, we use a process called ‘assist’ to follow the nervous system to reconnect the main points, to bring back communication,” she said.

“When you get a sudden shock to a part of your body the energy gets stuck, so we re-establish communication within the body by touching people through their clothes, and asking people to feel the touch.”

A tiny minority of Christians sent solar powered Bibles. The rest of sent money and professional help.

  2. Wouldn't REAL doctors be better? And how about some food?

Is it sexual healing? Are they touching their genitals?

I think real help would have been more appreciated. What a bunch of con artists.

Interesting… their using quantum touch to promote energy through the body, all while promoting their quack religion. Ya win some, ya lose some.

  6. scientology is pay-to-pray. most haitians live on less than $1 per day. might be barking up the wrong tree there, boys.

the scientologists basically used a bunch of doctors and volunteers for a pr campaign. the ones they flew from nyc they stranded in miami after they were done in haiti. the people had to dig into their own pockets and buy tickets to get back to nyc.

    • I was down there with this of haitian physicians team, and was one of those stranded at the airport, I've got footage of me asking them why they had just left us stranded in Miami. if you guys want the footage let me know.

  8. As a long-since *FORMER* Scientologist, I see this as the PR stunt that it was (not even bringing their own people home is low, even for them). That said, even after decades away, I still use touch-assists and contact-assists for minor injuries, because they work. The “church” is corrupt as all hell, but some of the tech is still valid. I'm not going to promote any of the non-church alternate groups, but anyone reading Disinfo is probably good with a search engine if they're curious :-).

  9. Wonder how many they tried to brainwash while they we're 'healing' them- 'have you taken our lifestyle test?'
    F OFF!

People living on $1/day just might be persuaded to send their children to the U.S. under “religious worker visas” http://www.lisamcpherson.org/visas.htm
to work at one of their “Orgs” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBBlx9oRsXs
