TSA Agent Plants White Powder on Passenger as ‘Joke’

Daniel Rubin writes in the Philadelphia Inquirer:

In the tense new world of air travel, we’re stripped of shoes, told not to take too much shampoo on board, frowned on if we crack a smile. The last thing we expect is a joke from a Transportation Security Administration screener — particularly one this stupid.

Rebecca Solomon is 22 and a student at the University of Michigan, and on Jan. 5 she was flying back to school after holiday break. She made sure she arrived at Philadelphia International Airport 90 minutes before takeoff, given the new regulations.

She would be flying into Detroit on Northwest Airlines, the same city and carrier involved in the attempted bombing on Christmas, just 10 days before. She was tense. What happened to her lasted only 20 seconds, but she says they were the longest 20 seconds of her life.

  1. Can any of us really be surprised? These agents are not police and are paid less than rent-a-cop wages. They are badly trained or barely trained, from what I hear. Gosh, you mean some moron given a modicum of power over another human being will abuse said power? I'll inform Dr. Zimbardo immediately.

  2. so when some one gets arrest at an airport for something, how do we know it is not a joke gone to far?

not only was this not funny and in bad taste, but it compromises the security system. an actual person transporting an illegal substance, can now use this incident, and claim the TSA worker planted on him, and it must have been some kind of joke. likewise, if the TSA claims some one was carrying an illegal substance, there will now always be doubt that they may have planted it.

this TSA agent should have been publicly disciplined to show the people that they take this seriously. but to hide it behind “privacy issues” just adds to the already tarnished image of the TSA.

  3. TSA people are the BIGGEST ASSHOLES IN THE WORLD. Period. I'm never ceased to be fully amazed by the dimensions of their assholeishness.

  4. i swear next time i fly im planting a bag of baking powder in my lugging and saying tsa planted it
