A longtime critic of how the Catholic Church has handled abuse allegations, Hitchens believes the current Pope was actually involved in the cover-up before he took the top job.

Hitchens also contends that the Pope is subject to criminal prosecution due to his involvement in the latest sex scandal.

    I think the Vatican will invoke diplomatic immunity if there is ever a serious attempt to prosecute him. In fact, doesn't US law prevent lawsuits against foreign countries?

    So, let's see…the Church harbors and supports child rapists, threatens to stop its charitable activities if we extend civil rights to include an entire class of Americans (homosexuals), and was instrumental in harping on an insignificant wedge issue which likely resulted in a weaker health reform bill being passed.

    How does the pope ever find time to condemn Harry Potter when he has so much evil to support?

    I’m not sure I usually agree with his politics, but I find myself agreeing with him more often than not about everything else. If more conservatives dropped the ‘holier than thou’ schtick they might be more tolerable and taken more seriously. Thank God they are comprised mostly of loonies.
