Milton Diamond for The Scientist:

Pornography. Most people have seen it, and have a strong opinion about it. Many of those opinions are negative — some people argue that ready access to pornography disrupts social order, encouraging people to commit rape, sexual assault, and other sex-related crimes. And even if pornography doesn’t trigger a crime, they say, it contributes to the degradation of women.

It harms the women who are depicted by pornography, and harms those who do not participate but are encouraged to perform the acts depicted in it by men who are acculturated by it. Many even adamantly believe that pornography should become illegal.

Alternatively, others argue that pornography is an expression of fantasies that can actually inhibit sexual activity, and act as a positive displacement for sexual aggression. Pornography offers a readily available means of satisfying sexual arousal (masturbation), they say, which serves as a substitute for dangerous, harmful, and illegal activities.

Some feminists even claim that pornography can empower women by loosening them from the shackles of social prudery and restrictions.

But what do the data say? Over the years, many scientists have investigated the link between pornography (considered legal under the First Amendment in the United States unless judged “obscene”) and sex crimes and attitudes towards women. And in every region investigated, researchers have found that as pornography has increased in availability, sex crimes have either decreased or not increased…

Motion thirded. Spell check says that thirded is not a word, but in any case, I third this motion.

I like pornography. I had an argument the other day with a friend of mine that was defending the morals that are portrayed in the Bible. I equated the Bible to porn and suggested that a film should be made using the Bible for its source material. I mentioned that there would be plenty of Bible sex to reproduce, but noted there would also be a lot of incest in the beginning of the film. Of course one could just use actors that aren't related to one another to play these roles. I lost a “friend” on facebook over this. Anyway, my friend stated that the Bible was morally just while pornography was degrading to women. It seems like it could be seen as being the other way around. Mostly.

Pornography, with all of its flaws, can be very conducive to prolonging marriages and other relationships, so long as it is used properly as a tool for sexual exploration. He claimed that pornography was at fault for whatever percentage he said of failed marriages, because it causes jealousy or feelings of inadequacy in the bedroom. That may be true in some cases, but not in all of them. If this sort of thing was talked about openly and honestly and if sex and sexuality were properly learned about in school we could see these social stigmas associated with pornography erased in a few generations.

I played one of those dumb lotteries one night with the intention of using the proceeds to make Biblical based pornography. I guess my will just wasn't strong enough.

what did they say about all the genocide going on in exodus? that morally just too?

Porn is healthy, what's the alternative – sexual repression. This is just another reason why the Australian govt is run by backwards retards. They recently banned things like small breasted and ejaculating women from our media. So not only are they medieval in their censorship but also in thinking that printed porn somehow still relevant

    • does not compute

I guess I can almost see a reason for banning ejaculating women (though I don't think banning any sort of sexual image is a good idea) given how retarded some of the people I've met are when it comes to the subject of biology. But small breasted women as well? What kind of retarded logic is behind that? No, really, I can excuse ejaculation banning under the censors not getting biology; however the breast thing is just odd. Are small breasted women “too manly” or something? That speaks more about the censor than anything else i.e. “If they don't have at least C cups I can't keep myself from fantasizing about men, and that makes me uncomfortable.” That's the only reason I can think of, its not like they could think small breasted women just don't happen or something.

The reason is that under the guise of “ridding the net of child pornography to protect the poor plebs” the Australian Govt can filter content such as images of small breasted woman because they may actually be children. How fucked up is that ? Any way this aussie is going to look at porn online now, while I still can.
