United Nations Wants To Take Guns Away From Americans

I’m not sure who made this video but it’s quite an effective piece of anti-UN, pro-guns propaganda (no editorial slant intended – let us know in the comments if you agree or disagree with the filmmaker):

Confusing paranoia with security. Gun ownership = power and “freedom”. Thus limiting guns is an attack on freedom. Great scare tactic, but it's untrue. Gun ownership will always be around, especially in the US, but limiting it is only natural. The success of anti-gun programs in places such as New York City is hard to refute. The stats speak for themselves. Gun violence is down significantly from peaks in the 70's. As is crime in general. We can thank pro NRA Rudy for that.

I can kind of understand their perspective. A responsible adult should be allowed to own a weapon. It's one of the basic elements found throughout human history.

On the other hand, I don't think guns are nearly as helpful as some folks think. If some militia group honestly tried to stop the “tyrannical” government, it would be a bloody mess. And I would wager that the government would survive, the US military at least is considerably better armed than any militia group. Guns help kill a lot of people, I think they do more harm than good.
(I've been to a gun show before and, let me tell you, those are the kind of people who I least want owning firearms.)

It's kind of a moot point, the UN seems pretty hard-pressed to actually effect US policy. It's not like they even TRIED to do anything to G. W. Bush for all his human rights violations. I certainly don't think the UN is going to transform the world into a fascist state.

    • RTJT

The military may not side with the government.

      • Spooky

That's why they have blackwater/xe and the others, just in case.

  • http://www.buzztwang.com DJ

Agreed. It's pretty over the top to think that the UN has a snowballs chance in hell of affecting Constitutional change in the USA. It's paranoid rantings. It really is. I was watching this with headphones on, and my wife was watching it peripherally (with no sound so she did not know what it was about) over my shoulder and said “Who are all the wide-eyed crazies?” in reference to a number of the persons in the video. Nuff said.

The backbone of of the NRA's upswing in membership and money has been rooted in creating enemies to freedom and thus enemies of guns. It's great business, bad civil policy.

  • Sparticus

If you consider the greater scale of what is happening within our American society you need not fear hunting rifles and sporting shotguns. The forefathers of this great nation had the wisdom to fear foreign war machines far more than their fellow Americans. They understood that a nation is only free as long as it can defend itself against the powers that control it.
By letting the voice of the U.N. overpower the voice of the American people we all suffer a great loss. How long will it be before U.N. Peace-keepers are on U.S. soil trying to enforce this resolution?

  • Gnosis

I turned it off as soon as the guy said “socialist”. Like that's a bad thing.

    Fucking rednecks and their guns.

    • Polymorpheous

when can we start considering the word “redneck” as a racial slur?
statements like that only prove fear and ignorance.

i own several firearms. i enjoy shooting them. so does my wife.
i DON'T listen to country music.
      i DON'T live in a trailer.
      i DON'T vote republican.

i DO believe americans have a right to protect themselves from tyranny. THIS IS WHY THE 2nd AMENDMENT WAS WRITTEN!

stop with the polarized thinking and generalizations.

    • Crazyhorse

I'm a biker , red neck & a gun owner , and I goddam gonna keep my guns in any circumstance , the 2nd Amendment is our law , and if you don't like it go and live some place else. You're the socialist , them in communist China don't allow their citizen to own guns, else their population would see them for what they are and get them out.Owning guns is like fighting for freedom for the ordinary folks , and keeping goddam burglers out of your house ,and anyone else who wants to harm you or yours , socialisums a bad thing when they take away your freedom and not their own , when they make the choice for you and you don't have no say in the matter , thats dictatorship , and no goddam fucking dictator who ever they are is gonna tell me what to fucking think or do .

Sparticus, predicting UN troops on US soil is simply more fear mongering. It's paranoia run amok. Will never happen. The circumstances required for that to happen are so dire that if it actually got to that point, we'd likely all welcome it. But a UN troop presence on US soil as some type of coup de tat or overthrow of the 2nd Amendment? Paranoid fantasy. UN troops have never been used for anything more than symbolic gestures and have always let others do the heavy lifting.

In the end, it's important to remember that the 2nd Amendment was primarily a function of the Founding Fathers understanding that a civilian call to arms (the draft) was the base of any future military. Traditionally, when a government drafted civilians, you actually brought your own gun.

  • markwalder

This is simply to take away the ability of the people to fight back at the government, when they decide to take over fully, its already here in the UK, or so they think, but men will always find away of fighting back against evil.

  • Tim

I'm from NZ and just did a search for paul clark and the 'coalition of legal firearm owners' and came up with nothing. Makes me wonder

  • ebwolf

To suggest that any U.N. group is going to enforce a gun ban in the U.S. is quite a stretch to say the least.

But spreading the idea that a gun ban is imminent seems to do wonders for the retail weapons industry. The boom in gun and ammo sales when “Barack Hussein Obama” was elected is a perfect example. Claims that he was planning to ban guns had them flying off the shelves.
I'm not claiming that this video was made for that purpose. But if I were an ad agency hired to boost gun sales, I think the strategy would get the Ed Bernays award.

    • Hadrian999

suggesting that the UN could enforce anything anywhere is laughable.

  • nick__nick

I think there needs to be a healthy debate about the legitimacy to use fire arms freely. I'm not sure what side of the fence I'm on. I can see both sides pretty clearly and they both are very strong. This video however is purely propaganda. It resonantes a bizarre anxiety about something that seems somewhat rather meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Look at their use of words “evil”, “agenda”, etc. It's really kind of sensationalist.

  • dumbsaint

Even if this wasn't rubbish, when was the last time the US listened to the UN?

  • umlimo

The constitution doesn't guarantee the right to firearms – its just 'arms'. What I really like to see is test cases for heavier weaponry – artillery right up to nukes. Why should the government be able to monopolize these weapons?

  • tonyviner

I have no problem with someone owning a gun in this country, be it for self-defense or to use for hunting. There might need to be limits on what is acceptable, though. Along with registering and licensing a gun should come a mandatory course on ownership and safety. Maybe a psychological test or two as well.

As far as ridding the United States of guns goes, and I assume this goes for the military too, when this happens we will be one step closer to embracing more earth-friendly forms of energy such as solar, because you would not need a gun to steal all of Iraq's sunlight. Saddam or no Saddam.

  • Polymorpheous

is necessary for the security of a free state.

  • Rich

    Guns suck :|

  • mrtwilight23

By their nature firearms give power to the weak.
Conservative minded people seem prone to fear.
The 'come what may' liberals are idealists.

  • voo_doo

Im a gun owner and care about protecting my rights , but this is pure right wingnut conspiracy theory and anti UN propaganda.

The small arms treaty is about controlling the sale of weapons to guerrilla movements, insurgents and irresponsible governments NOT about taking guns away form American citizens ( and even if it was, a UN treaty has no standing in US law) … See More

  • guns=your freedom

what has happened throughout history when a government strips weapon rights? yep, you know what. and look what happened at katrina, yea there were riots, but take away the legal guns and only criminals will have them. it just doesnt work. and places where handguns are legal have lower burglery rates. researchhhhhhhh.

  • Dennis Peterson

It's only propaganda if it is wholy untrue. The bottom line is we do not trust our government or any other when it comes to loosing our freedoms.

    • http://www.buzztwang.com DJ

Dennis, Propaganda can be true or not true. It's not only untrue. The point of propaganda is to convince people of s specific point. And, history shows us that information can be used as propaganda. Whether it's true or not does not denote whether it is propaganda or is not. And, governments are simply groups of people. No more, no less. It's not some nefarious monster in the dark waiting to take away our freedom. How much power a government has or does not have is our responsibility. What is ironic and sad is that most of the same people screaming about the governments power are exactly the same ones who were silent when their rights were being stomped upon by the Bush Administration. Funny how all of a sudden it's a major movement of great import and immediacy when a liberal black man is in the Oval Office.
