American Initiate Claims Freemasons In Italy Are Really The Knights Templar

Hidden WisdomA recent post on has stirred up the debate on whether or not Freemasonry is the modern identity of the Knights Templar. The gentleman (remember, all American Masons are men) writes from Italy:

During my stay here I was invited to go with a few interpreters to a Scottish Rite Lounge in a small town near Ancona… The first thing I learned shortly after walking through the doors is that the true Freemasons are, in fact the Knights Templar! This meeting was a meeting of the Templar Knights under the guise of the Freemasons…

Now this is difficult for me but I can not mention who was there or what we talked about. But as far as the American Delegates that were there, that I stood right next to, I couldn’t believe who I was seeing. The most appropriate thing I can mention is that everyone I saw, you definitely know exactly who they are… No Barack Obama was not there.

Take his post with a grain (or more) of salt, but it has certainly stirred up the message boards at ATS. For me, it was very interesting timing as well-known Freemason and author Tim Wallace-Murphy arrives in New York this week for the launch of his new book, Hidden Wisdom: Secrets of the Western Esoteric Tradition, which describes the genealogy of the Freemasons from the Knights Templar in great detail. However, I had not previously heard of such an explicit modern display of Templar ritual within Freemasonry as this one in Italy. If any Masons are reading this, please let us know if you have ever witnessed something similar.

I read that post as well and kinda found it funny. Check into the York Rite. This isn't exactly news. I do question the validity however because even if the person that wrote the post was a Master Mason, he shouldn't have bee allowed access unless he were a York Rite Mason. I don't care what his particular talents were – that would not have happened in the US.

When I was a kid I walked into the local Masonic Center for some water and was greeted by a large man wearing tons of medallions and a funny hat. He told me they were modern Knights Templar, so this is not news for me at all.

A simple google search shows there are many Masonic (and other) organizations that call themselves “Knights Templar”. Although its highly likely that aspects of the Knights Templar we adopted in Freemasonry in northern Scotland there is no organization in the world that can prove a direct lineage to the original “Knights of the Temple”.
Ironically the Masonic “Knights Templar” (in North America) is the only body in Freemasonry that is explicitly Christian.

Longstone, as I would expect from a MM, speaks the truth. Cheers brother!
