Hitler ‘Downfall’ Parodies Removed from YouTube

Downfall ParodyNein! Nein! Nein! Gottverdammt YouTube! Gottverdammt Constantin Film! Es ist wahr! Mein Leben ist vorbei.

What the hell YouTube, you did this on Hitler’s birthday?!? WTF. Reports Mashable:

The movie studio responsible for the award-winning, German-Austrian film Downfall (German: Der Untergang) has asked YouTube to take down several videos from the massively popular subtitled “Hitler finds out…” meme, and the site has complied.Search YouTube and you’ll still find hundreds of Downfall parodies, but click through to some of the bigger ones and you’ll now get the message, “This video contains content from Constantin Film, who has blocked it on copyright grounds.”

Downfall No More...

Yep, all the ones we have on disinfo.com are gone…

Talk about killing a thoroughly awesome, entirely organic viral marketing campaign that surely convinced many people to go out and rent the actual movie. Retards.

someone has to make one about this

  3. Agreed on both counts.

The message is certainly clear, but what video to use now? Now that this clip has been removed, where Oh where shall we ever find another piece of filmed entertainment to recompile to show this company the lunacy of taking such extreme measures. I guess it may take us a minute to find one.

Ultimately, shooting themselves in the foot is their legal right, but clearly they don't understand modern media. I feel like I should apply for the position of Intarwebs Liaison or Ambassador to the Intertubes and hold their hands as we walk into the 21st Century from whatever era they are stuck at or on. I am not sure I have the energy to explain their need and the technologies involved to them, not to mention their misuse of market forces.

Oh well, Darwin may be proved right again here, so maybe it's better I don't apply for the job. I hate it when companies that should do well go belly up under me.

Good luck Constantin Film! The picture looked like it might be worth a rental, and I may yet rent it, but I won't be in such a hurry now that I see what f**k-ups you are. Not meaning this to sound so harsh, but really?!!?! Someone in a position to make this happen thought this was a good idea? Truly?

This was a stupid decision on your part. The reason is simple. To paraphrase a FB friends' take on this- it was the parodies that had me interested in renting this film. Now I am not so sure I want to, because the forces behind it are clearly somewhat less than stellar intellects, and I like to see the work of smart people when I rent movies.

  4. Media companies are experts at killing their golden gooses. This reminds me of the recording company ordering a takedown of the original RickRoll video. Yep, because people were just champing at the bit to watch Rick Astley prior to the RickRoll.
