Criminals Running the Crime Scene

From Nick Pell at Red Star Times

For anyone who needed a good, hard lesson in the nature of American capitalism and the Democratic Party, the Deepwater Horizon disaster provides it. BP, a massive energy cartel was allowed to flagrantly violate established safety laws by the Obama Administration. Indeed, the Administration abetted BP in violating safety and environmental regulations.

Oil has been allowed – by the government and BP – to gush out into the Gulf of Mexico at a rate as yet undetermined (but estimated at about an Exxon Valdez disaster every four days) for over a month. The administration finally admitted that the spill is the worst in American history, but didn’t bother to mention that it might actually get worse.

Despite public outrage, BP is still being allowed to run its own cleanup and investigation. The official investigation will clearly be little more than a whitewash. Barry does his usual mock outrage song and dance while shielding the perpetrators of a colossal crime of genocidal proportions. No one in the government or the media has suggested the unthinkable proposition that the perpetrators in BP and the government be investigated, tried and sentenced by the people affected most.

More priceless is the little history lesson about this whole obscene tragedy given by Rachel Maddow last night on her program. Her staff dug through NBC's archives (you know acting like actual journalists, unlike the hairdos on most of the network news organizations) researching how the oil industry has handled such incidents in the past.

And what they found is just nauseating. If you don't have video capabilities for whatever reason, the crux of this is that back in 1979, the oil industry did EVERY SINGLE THING they're doing now, with none of it working to fix the problem. The only difference is that they screwed up at a depth of 200 ft last time. Now they've screwed up at a depth of 5000 ft. In other words, in 30 years, the only thing that's “advanced technologically in the oil industry is that they've learned to drill deeper, but they've invested exactly ZERO in technologies to make it safer.

If you DO have video capacity, watch the report here:

It's enough to give you a mind meltdown.

Laying deregulation of the oil industry on Obama's doorstep shows how little you really know.

I'd have to agree with that. It's a bit like blaming the next guest who rents the hotel room for the damage the third-rate drunken rock band did to the room the night before.

Obama didn't puke on the carpet, poop in the trash can, set the toilet paper on fire in the bathroom, clog the toilet until it overflowed, or glue the coffee table to the ceiling. That was done by the drunken frat boy from Connecticut who likes to pretend he's a cowboy, and the mean old fart from Wyoming who is his roadie who then skipped out without paying the bill.

BARACK is just the poor schmuck who has to deal with the left-over ill-feelings created by those other douchebags.

That said, if he really wants to get in the good graces of the hotel staff, he could always report that he'd found the wallet of both the previous “guests” and turn them in to the police. That'd go a long way to making folks feel better.

      :-)

“BARACK is just the poor schmuck who has to deal with the left-over ill-feelings created by those other douchebags.”

True. But this is compounded by the fact that Obama was helped to office by, and obligated to, a different group of douchebags: the North East Establishment; that group of politically connected, billionaire investors for whom the major investment banks are run.

This would have been a better post if you removed the anti-Obama/Democrat parts. This has nothing to do with him or the party. This has been the free market status quo in this industry for a very, very long time. See Maddow's piece already mentioned in the comments here. We've been here before.

The same people who brought us Vietnam brought us the Iraq war.

The same people who brought us Ixtoc 1 are bringing us Deepwater Horizon.

Vietnam was a Democratic Party war. It's also worth noting the (lack of) response by the Obama Administration. As I am wont to say, Obama isn't Bush's third term, he's Reagan's eighth.

The parallel I meant regarding Vietnam is the inclusion of Rumsfeld, Cheney and others in the Nixon White House and Washington durning the final years of Vietnam. These same people were involved 27 years later win the start the Iraq war. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/p

The corruption of the oil industry safety regulators didn't start with Obama 17 months ago.

Nick, this is disinfo.com. While fairly mainstream for my paranoid tastes you are supposed to have wised up to the political “opposition” farce. The Elite only back parties for appearances sake, to fool schmucks like you. The politicians all work for the System in a revolving door with business. Do you really think the CIA and NSA etc work for the President? Didn’t do JFK much good, did it?
Think you are a thinker? Think again.

Ima change it up and talk about the BP CEO.. He doesn't look like he's slept in weeks (or he's been downing valium like an addict)…. Not feeling sorry for him, but does anyone else think a suicide is out of the question for the dude?
