I've always liked the way oil looks in water, but that doesn't make it okay.

  • nonesuchone

May we be forgiven for this.

  • Kate

It looks so unearthly and alien, beautiful but terrible. 'Humanity' has a lot to answer for.

  • Lovefist

It's both grotesque and strangely beautiful. There is not enough shame to go around for those responsible. Buzz Aldrin has the right idea. Me must stop feeding the beast.

  • 5by5

Light it on fire and you can deep fry a turkey in that.

  • Regal_pooch

It isn't real. I don't even know if there is a gulf of mexico.

    • Mikal427

      WHAT????? Hope you are kidding

      • Desmolay

He isn't. And there is no such thing as you, too.

  • GoodDoktorBad

Beautiful waves of oily puss, oozing like an infected sore. Thanks BP. Thanks, you are true masters in the art of pestilence and destruction. A Royal cancer…… Thanks again fuckers!

  • Juggalojesse2000

    disgusting

  • justagirl

    feeble.

I've had similar thoughts about some of the pictures I've seen of birds drenched in oil.

Interestingly, people in the Gulf states are still making excuses for off shore/deep water drilling, and opposing Obama's moratorium on new wells, in spite of fact that it is presently transforming their shores into toxic hellscapes. It makes me feel…unsympathetic.

    • fearforthecoast

Not all people in the Gulf States! Many of us are still in shock, most of us have signed up for volunteer clean ups, almost all of us have felt the change in our economy already, as if being in some of the poorest states in the nation wasn't enough. The reason you're unsympathetic is because none of us have DIED from it yet (though one of my mother's customers did commit suicide two days ago). Maybe when hurricanes start dropping oil and that shitty dispersant on us the mainstream media will show us crying for help instead of our moronic leaders trying to serve their Republican god.

OMG it can destroy the beach.. it's sad..

Down to my right corner on the screen is the picture of a nuclear explosion. That's beautiful too. But creepy.

  • Donnadamage

    not beautiful…

  • iphlogiston

“Beauty”? You have a really skewed concept of what beauty is. It's horror. There's nothing beautiful in that. Stop glorifying it. Water isn't supposed to look like that. Disgusting.

How many of you who point the finger at BP are driving SUVs? How many denigrate the citizens of the Gulf, but still have a n intact job and made your rent/mortgage payment this month?

This filth is everyone's problem –it's not 'their' problem. Sympathy is not what's called for here; it's responsibility.

How much do you know about the oil industry in general? Do you know who pulls the strings? Have you wondered why Bush did nothing to lower gas prices while their escalation triggered this recession? Do you wonder how 50k+ barrels of oil can spill from this gouge every day for months and yet the price at the pump is actually slightly lower?

Every time you bag your groceries into a throwaway container you add to the ugliness. When you take medication, you will flush it's leftovers into our water systems. When you diaper your baby in disposals, you add to the crap the world has to swallow. There are no innocents. We each and all are guilty. Be responsible.

    • Natelildogg

bush's escalation in price did nothing to trigger this, it was a bolt put in the wrong way and they drilled completely wrong

Yes people are responsible but come on! BP IS the one that made the pollution problem something possibly unfixable. You seem like a hippy who blames the tragedies of the earth on everyone but yourself. This spill has nothing to do with prices of oil anything with the oil industry, it was an accident, but that doesn't mean its not their fault. This is a wake up call for everyone to actually do something about the horrible amounts of pollution in the ocean, don't start changing the subject to who is responsible for ALL the pollution in the ocean. The oil spill changed everything, if ANYTHING blame the peoples greed, and laziness for wanting more and more oil and not doing a damn thing to change the fact that it was bad for the environment.

  • Harold Edward Burton

If it saves me 20 cents a gallon, I say go for it. Who said water has to be blue, anyway?

  • Htowntrnity

dont blame suv drivers for this bullshi… look these people knew the risks and did this anyway, they should be dragged through our city streets to be strung up and then beheaded so they can not return from the dead to get revenge. there bodies should then be salted and burned and there families forced to live in poverty as THEY by hand clean up there mess. This is all due to the greed of our rich and out of touch government and the elite who only wish to steral, destroy and kill for what they want..

  • Thezenunderground

Right… Everyone should be pointing fingers at ourselves… Americans have sent this message: “we dont want foreign oil, but we want to drive escalades and we dont want to pay a carbon tax, and we definitely dont want to be inconvenienced” The only alternative was high risk drilling..

So quit bitching, and go ahead and drive your Yukon to Whole Foods.
