Confessions of an Economic Hitman had a tremendous impact on me as it basically simultaneously made me sick to my stomach and enraged. I suppose I believe Mr. Perkin's story wholly even though it's possible he fabricated it. The book reads like fiction with all the international intrigue and conspiracy elements but it seems true. And if it is as accurate as he claims I seriously doubt the system can can be reformed from the inside out. A total revolution is necessary yet I believe violence begets violence so a revolution will only sow the seeds for more corruption. The Venus Project may be the only vision for a future that seems to transcend our current condition and the cycles of behaviour that are entrenched and perpetuate.

I can believe that at a metaphorical level what Perkins says is true about EHM's and Jackals — consider the case of Mosaddegh, the Bolivian water war, and the War in Iraq. But I have to say that his book doesn't strike me as sounding factually accurate; in particular, that section where he discusses his brush with the NSA in “Confessions of an E.H.M.'' I know a thing or two about the NSA, and getting involved in the sort of things Perkins describes is not them. The NSA is mainly a bunch of math and computer geeks — think crypto. What Perkins describes sounds more like the CIA. That's just one example.

Here is a document I found out about while reading a NY Times article on Perkins:

Perhaps when he retires rich from all his book sales and shaman-shenanigans, he will write a book titled, “Confessions of a Con Man''.

While I'm not going to defend Perkins story from his book; what credibility does a government damage control piece have over Perkins version?
Much of his personal story in Confessions may be bullshit, his description of U.S. policy when it comes to foreign “aid” is pretty accurate and so is the above video.

This is an excelent, simple, and clear explanation of what has been going down. But perkins is laughable when he says “I don't think the failure is capitalism” . It makes me think he is still part of the system.

Regarding the varacity of what perkins documents. He is not the only source of info on how this system works. Also, the NSA, the CIA, and all the rest are part of the same system of global enslavement and even congress has very little idea of where the massive black budgets go. So if Perkins was told he was working for the NSA and it turns out it was the CIA, whats the difference. I read the governments official disclaimer of perkins and it was so meager that I actually came away with more faith in perkins story if not his somewhat whacked hope for the future, that seems to be something like a corporate, shaman, ngo love fest. TOO MANY HALLUCINOGENS DUDE.

To E. B. Wolf (Disinfo would not let me reply directly to your response, so I am writing it here at the top): Look, I know the NSA… do you understand what I'm getting at here? I know some people who work for them, know what they are looking for, I have been paid by them (research grant money), and I have been inside the headquarters at Fort Mead Maryland. WHAT PERKINS DESCRIBES IS NOT WHAT THE NSA DOES. Capiche?

ES, you're supposed to be able to respond directly, I think there's a DISQUS glitch right now depending on the browser you are using (working OK in Google Chrome). We're working on it. Thanks for the comment and good workaround.

Regardless of the fabrication of the story and the feigned fiction intrigue, anything he may have made up was purely for the point of his story.. There's nothing too conspirical about it: he tiptoes around 9-11, he only insinuates that presidential assassinations were done by the CIA (there's no evidence), and as another commenter said, he doesn't go past the 'capitalism' point–that's all it is.

I think despite of any falsities in the book, it's a great way of beginning to look at everything a lot more critically. I finally have the answer to the question I asked years ago when visiting Costa Rica and Nicaragua: why the fuck are there coke and pepsi paintings/billboards/logos EVERYWHERE?

As I remember it, he wasn't a part of the NSA or the CIA–just a guy accomplishing their goals for them. I don't think it really matters in any case, he's using proven techniques to evoke emotion in readers into a good cause, simple as that..
