Porn Is Apocalyptic

On porn and the end of the world:

The spread of porn is somewhat akin to Global Warming – both evidence that we are mistreating the Earth, but also has the potential to totally transform our behavior for the better. Porn is evidence that we’re being totally careless with our sexuality, but taboo-breaking could be useful if we don’t devolve completely.  I’m not entirely optimistic about our chances.

The trouble with porn is that it is currently forbidden. Even though people decry the mainstreaming of porn – Jenna Jameson on Oprah – the mainstreaming is as senseless as any other cultural artifact. Jenna Jameson shows you can make a lot of money in porn and there’s even some glamor in it, but the real porn story is how this trickles down to everyone else. Just as people debase themselves eating cockroaches on “Fear Factor” to get 15 minutes of fame, porn is bringing the same impulse to the bedroom.  No, sex isn’t the same as eating cockroaches, but there’s a similar senselessness in a lot of porn. “To each his own” is a little too easy….

Maybe we’re in the middle of a crossroads. The pornification of the world through the web is helping us reach a point where nudity is as nice and normal as it should be. Trouble is: most people putting up home porn movies aren’t quite evolutionary sociologists so they’re mostly just being stupid and careless. Which really does seem tied together with how the human race is thoughtless about everything. For every Nina Hartley, who’s a genius, there are thousands more who have no idea what they’re conveying.  Porn isn’t evidence that we’re breaking taboos, it’s evidence of our dissolution.

good, the old world needs to be swept away,

Every time you watch porn, Jesus moves his expected time of return up 10 minutes.

      • GoodDoktorBad

They moved his arrival up so many times they had to go backward in time……about 2000 years…..

Christianity is a time paradox sci fi story…..

They leave out the most important part of the crucifixion story in the Bible:

When Jesus ascended into heaven, he said, “Pssht. Sure. I'll be back. In like a billion years. Screw you guys.”

          • http://voxmagi-necessarywords.blogspot.com/ VoxMagi

On the way up he shouted “Sure I'll come back! As soon as I can play the piano again, fuckers!” (with a nod to Sam Kinison)

Aww shit…sorry folks…I just cost you a couple decades until Paradise and Redemption.

      • Hadrian999

he should have been back a while ago then.

What a load of crap. The reason people are watching home made/amateur porn is because it is 'real' as opposed to the fake tit, bad acting same old same old that the porn industry has been delivering for years.
I had trouble finding the authors point. Apocolyptic – wtf?

  • http://voxmagi-necessarywords.blogspot.com/ VoxMagi

Wow…apocalyptic, huh? I haven't used that word with regard to anything except the second non-election of Dubya…and hey…I was damned close to right.

I suppose a good case could be made tho…if one assumes that in repressed Jesus-crispie Land they depend on miserable frigid, deeply unsatisfied people to keep the pews full and the donations coming, then yes…porn and the rising acceptance that sex is not merely fun, but potentially awe inspiring, is cause for terror and woe. Happy, well-adjusted people don't need churches, fatwahs and stonings to keep them smiling. Wouldn't that be awful?

  • vicwiz

Yeah fake porn needs to go, real people having sex can stay.

  • vicwiz

And if any hot chicks want me to film them. I got a camera :)

How is Nina Hartley a genius? Is there a subcontext to her scenes that I'm not comprehending?

Regarding porns bad qualities, the ony thing it seems to be ruinging is itself. Porn ruins Porn. I remember when I was 16, I could look at a Playboy or a lingere catalog and get a boner. Now the only thing that gives me a boner is my girlfriend. Porn doesn't do anything for me anymore. Porn ruined porn for me, even strip clubs. Porn is Over, or will be, soon enough.

“Genius” might be stretching it a bit, but it’s not completely outrageous, either.

Porn is just an spectacle, another entertaiment (it's only purpose?), it trivializes sexuality, and doesn't discover deeper dimensions on it. Like that, people tend to think that sex is only another disposable pleasure.

    • Simmer

A spectacle as such is ripe for detournement no?

  • pompeii

Porn began when the cave man drew on the cave wall the first stick figure with the nay nays. When Toth taught man how to write the first thing man wrote was about nay nays. When the camera was invented the first picture man took was nay nays. The first moving picture was nay nays. And the first thing transmitted on the internet was nay nays. No matter what type of media is invented nay nays will be there.

    >The spread of porn is somewhat akin to Global Warming – both evidence that we are mistreating the Earth

The above sentence is a non-sequitur; the author makes no attempt to prove how porn is evidence that “we” are mistreating the Earth. The author makes an analogy without argument.

  • Mutterhals

Couldn't anything be porn, though? If I think about that home security commercial with AJ busting in through my back door whilst rubbing one out, isn't that also porn? Porn isn't the huge conudrum everyone tries to make it. People are horny, they look at or think about or read sexy stuff to get off, the end.

A good point – people have fetishes for everything from feet, to mascot outfits, to diapers, to balloons, to japanese cartoon characters…
One man’s “what the hell did i just watch” is another mans “ohhhh god, must. not. fap.”
People have allllllways got off on strange shit, now we just are able to talk to one another anonymously about it.

  • yeah

So far Porn Biz has been at the forefront of developing the internet. The website access subscription model, the stream casting on demand model, the content chanel clouding model, self publishing and context meta tagging concepts, not to mention spyware/malware distribution – all pioneered by porn biz. The content itself, is irrelevant. Alot of amatuer porn is published by sexually disfunctional types who alway push the limits of self-abuse extremes, since they need to be drowning in their own adrenaline to orgasm, we get to see their sickness documented and displayed. The other trend is the formulaic porn act performer scenes. Both are rote and frankly boring at this point, so what’s next for internet porn? 3D? Chatroulette type social net(jerk)working? anti porn-cultural porn?
