            Riiiight. They had rockets and grenades on the ship, but decided not to use them as they were being shot at and beaten by IDF thugs. They busted out a couple slingshots instead.

            Watch the video I linked above. Behind several layers of flour bags, there are green military boxes of grenades, and larger boxes with rockets. They weren't easily accessible, because they weren't meant to be discovered. The “peace” loving European hypocrites, and IHH goons, attempted to smuggle arms to Hamas. They deserved what they got, and much more.

            My guess is that Israel planted those weapons or the video is a fake. This is based on these facts:
            - That video is during the day and the flotilla was sieged in the middle of the night.
            - The date at the beginning of the video says 4 11 2009.
            - Israel has already been caught lying about events: ie the guy attacking troops as soon as they land with a knife, even though the picture is clearly during the daytime.
            - Israel refuses to let an impartial and independent investigation happen. What are they trying to hide?
            - IHH was never referred to as a terrorist organization until AFTER this incident.

            I could go on and on but the gist of it is that Israel has already been caught lying, and continues to hide the video evidence.

            There were no prof. weapons on this ship, just some 40 thugs (among 400 passengers) with metal rods, knifes and some lust for action.

            There were not as much supplies either, because this whole mission was just for provocation.

            It is soo obvious that in the Vid. above nobody is getting shot. The inscription is bogus, badly made.

            Hypnos1, go back to your computer games, or better yet, go join the Hamas.

            1. I don't care what you think about the video above. The fact is Israeli troops shot and killed at least 9 people. Why are we arguing about whether or not someone was shot. Nobody disputes that, not even Israel (not anymore at least).

            2. I know this is really difficult for Israel supporters to understand, but there is a fundamental difference between a supporter of Palestine and a supporter of Hamas. It seems you, as an apologist for state violence, would be a far more suitable recruit for Hamas.

            1. The fact is that 9 people were killed. I am not arguing whether someone was shot. There is not enough clear information out there about how it happened. The vid. up there gives a fake account.

            2. Not difficult at all. One can support the palestinians, and believe in a peaceful sollution in the region. One can strive for a peace agreement, and be mature enough to recognize that the good and the bad was brought on by both sides.
            Otherwise one can continue with the old rant: Zionism is racism. 'em Yids are liars, and so on and so on.
            Hamas would be the most suitable champion for such an attitude, wouldn't it? The Flotilla was organized in support of them, in any case.

    only thing I can figure is it must be based on weapon cost or something not actual effect.
    if you take every civilian death caused by hamas or hezbollah since they began they would probably be a fraction of the civilian deaths caused by israel and the us in the last 10 years

    Here's the point that goes beyond just this ship.

    Israel has gone completely off the beam batshit crazy irrational about this for some time before this incident. From detaining Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney's boat which was also delivering humanitarian aid, to refusing to let Noam Chomsky into the country to speak (because clearly, words are scary, in a “democracy”), this has long passed the point of equivalency.

    I was watching Bill Maher last night and he raised the issue of Lebanon and how “Hezbollah lobbed rockets at the Israelis”.

    Yeah. “Rockets”. Romanian spitballs that can barely dent a Toyota.

    Meanwhile Israel bombed the length and breadth of that entire country because two of their soldiers went onto foreign soil where they didn't belong, and big surprise, were captured. And by contrast, the bombs the Israelis used flattened multistory apartment buildings, indeed decimated entire blocks. But hey, at least they won't have to worry about their nearest economic competitor for the time being, right? Gee, that's convenient. And just when Lebanon was getting back on it's feet after the LAST Israeli invasion….

    Then you have the blockade of Gaza, following a similar disproportional response that did things like flatten HOSPITALS. Now some 65% of Palestinian babies are anemic because the Israelis won't let in sufficient medical supplies. Not to mention blocking construction materials with which to rebuild the hospitals, apartment buildings, water treatment facilities, etc. that the Israelis destroyed. Are the Israelis scared of babies?

    (Actually, the answer to that one is YES. They are. Because Israelis know that Palestinians are simply pumping out rugrat units faster than they are, and soon, Palestinians will simply outnumber them in their own country. Not good if you want to stay in power in a democracy.)

    Look, here's the 411. I believe that Israeli has an absolute right to exist. When I lived in Germany, I used to live across the street from railroad tracks I happen to KNOW took Jews to the gas chambers. That level of suffering is enough to break your brain, so I understand the deep need to have a place of their own to call home. But that residual fear does not mean you have the right to stomp on someone else to get your own plot of land. If you do, you will simply have become the thing you hate. I want better for the Jewish people than that.

    I also believe the Palestinians should have the right to their own independent, VIABLE state as well. And one thing that makes a state viable and self-supporting, is simply international trade. But it's a little difficult to trade with anyone, when your borders are all closed by a blockade — something which, I might add, is an act of war (that's why Kennedy called the ships off Cuba a “quarantine” for example).

    Now the Muslim world is not blameless in this. The Israeli blockade would amount to shit if the Egyptians weren't ALSO blockading the borders on their side, but still. They are doing so to preserve their treaty with Israel, NOT because it is a smart idea or a just policy.

    Israeli hardliners are doing more to harm Israel's reputation than the terrorists ever could. Just as George Bush did more to screw up our reputation than any terrorist could.

    The rightwing hardliner BS simply DOESN'T WORK anywhere. Period. All it does in exacerbate the already tense situation. And dropping commandos onto a civilian vessel in international waters in the middle of the night? That's a damn fool idea too.

    Netanyahu is a dick. His predecessor was a dick. Yasser Arafat was an idiot as well, but guess what, when Israel was fighting for liberation from the British, they used terrorism too, so that's a serious glass house they're living in, and they should probably put down the rock.

    The last leaders of any real honor and credibility that Israel has had were Yitzhak Rabin, and Shimon Peres. The rest of the recent crew were douchebags.

    Frankly, I'm sick to death of the entire region. Our main concern as Americans should simply be to stop giving aid to EITHER side to continue this stupid bickering. Ultimately, we've already armed Israel to the teeth. They have nukes and an army that wins wars in 6 days. They've got enough, and we no longer have the funds to throw around on that childish crap.

    The hard truth is, the Israelis DO need to get the hell out of Palestinian territory that isn't theirs. Enough with the provocative settlements. Time to SHARE their toys.

    Done. Over it. The entire reason why we have a country is because Columbus was trying to find a new route to the Far East. Why? Because he was trying to avoid the crazy bastards in the MIDDLE East! And I for one, second that emotion.
