A 13-year-old boy was struck by lightning — at 13:13 hours on Friday the 13th, according to reports. The teen was watching an air show at Lowestoft, England, when he was struck and was later treated for burns to his shoulder, the UK’s Mirror newspaper said. He is expected to fully recover.

Rex Clarke, leader of the St. John Ambulance team that treated the child, described what happened. “Suddenly there was this huge crack of lightning really close to the seafront and really loud thunder,” he told the Mirror. “Seconds later we got a call someone had been hit. The boy was breathing and was conscious.”

“He had a minor burn to his shoulder and was taken to hospital as a precaution. It could have been a lot worse,” he said, adding: “It’s all a bit strange that he was 13, and it happened at 13:13 on Friday the 13th.”

Two other spectators, who were standing near the boy when he was hit, were treated for minor injuries, the Mirror said. “We were just watching the Red Arrows [air display team] go past and there was a flash of lightning,” one of the wounded, Jordan Gissing, 16, told the Mirror. “I couldn’t speak. I was in shock.”

I was in a six-way at 6:06 on 6/6/06. This kid has a lot of catching up to do.

Good one Connie. One wonders what you have planned for 12/12/12…

Really spooky…the boy thus survived that is really something

    • Connie Dobbs

Yeah, it's very special, since no one else has ever survived a lightning strike before!

uhh that must be really weird sarcasm…

A friend of mine was struck by lightning and has been plagued by weird health issues ever since. This boys troubles are only beginning.

        that is actually false
A man once survived being hit by lightning 7 times in a row while working at a national park.
The lightning struck him in the head and he still survived.
It would be impossible for him to be the first person ever to be struck by lightning in all the milions of years there have been humans and life and they all died but now and 13yr old boy gets struck and he is perfectly fine

I'm not sure I am convinced about the time.

The rest really sux for the boy, but the 13:13 time is incredibly strange. I mean — did he immediately check the time after the strike? Was there a witness?

I guess I just don't believe everything in this story until this detail is proven. It just seems like someone is exaggerating a story — much like the way I'm exaggerating my point.

The news never exaggerates. For example, the news would NEVER condone the murder of innocent civilians by a totalitarian dictator.

Oh, wait. My bad. Happens all the time. Walter Duranty of the New York Times won a Pulitzer Prize for reporting the same year he KNOWINGLY falsified information about Stalinist atrocities, notably the deliberate genocide-by-starvation against Ukrainians.

You are so right. Look how they refuse to criticize the Bush/Obama administration's murdering of Iraqi, Afghan, and even American citizens.

Hang on. Wasn't 23 the special number last week ?

    wow
    that is really strange
if it happened at 13:13:13(seconds) in the year 2013
that would have been even stranger still
