Coca-Cola: “No Consumer Could Reasonably Be Misled into Thinking Vitaminwater Was a Healthy Beverage”

Courtroom insanity when a company that makes a product can say in its defense that why would a consumer consider it to be safe … John Robbins writes on the Huffington Post:

Now here’s something you wouldn’t expect. Coca-Cola is being sued by a non-profit public interest group, on the grounds that the company’s vitaminwater products make unwarranted health claims. No surprise there. But how do you think the company is defending itself?

In a staggering feat of twisted logic, lawyers for Coca-Cola are defending the lawsuit by asserting that “no consumer could reasonably be misled into thinking vitaminwater was a healthy beverage.”

Does this mean that you’d have to be an unreasonable person to think that a product named “vitaminwater,” a product that has been heavily and aggressively marketed as a healthy beverage, actually had health benefits?

Or does it mean that it’s okay for a corporation to lie about its products, as long as they can then turn around and claim that no one actually believes their lies?

It means that Coca Cola has no way of defending them and is just throwing statements around.

The concept of being able to trick a consumer into believing anything, is the very fundament of marketing. Always has been, always will be. Saying this is basically saying you don't believe in your own marketing strategy, which is absurd.

What Coca Cola is trying to pull off here, is unbelievable. They are seriously suggesting there is a common ground-level of intelligence that all humans possess, which is an unfathomable generalization, and secondly, that certain properties, beliefs and theories can be measured by this general basis, allowing them to put things on a “possible” and “not possible” list.

And they wish to put this on the “not possible” list. If they succeed, then they are being sued for something that is not possible, and thus they win the case.

They already got us buying bottled water, you think adding a few synthetic vitamins to it and calling it
“vitamin water” is really that much of a stretch?

They're right. Reasonable people read labels.

I personally buy VitaminWater because I love the marketing and copywriting… the agency and copywriter were/are all doing a stellar job and if you are so dumb as to think this stuff is healthy then drink up we could use less of you in the gene pool.

Well, since Coca Cola quite literally will eat the corrosion off a battery terminal, tastes like shit, makes you fat and causes diabetes, gum and tooth diseases and blood sugar issues galore yet they overprice it to insanely evil profit to cost produced rates and push it on the public with happy, smiling children and  frolicking polar bears it is not a radical notion that said public arent the brightest of bulbs…

Personally I love the ’50 cent ‘ connection so the urban black population would buy vitaminwater because of its’ ‘street cred’. Go to the hugely popular World of Coke downtown and see….umm…Coke and ….stuff…lotsa ads,and you can have all the free little plastic cups of impossibly sweet or satanically bitter regional favorites from all over(think ‘koi juice from japan’!! Yay!.Drink up,suckers! Its like plunking down nine bucks to see Paris Hilton’s press releases, artifcacts of all her various non-enterprises throughout the years and pictures of her grimacing servants and yappy little dogs presented in Paris Hilton’s house. How delightful!

So just get a plastic jug,go to a water fountain and fill it up with cold water. Rock on. Or dont, just continue to make these monstrous pricks wealthy while they grinningly, openly call their own paying customers stupid rubes….
