Glenn Beck: The New Messiah? Palin Running Mate? Or What?

You have to hand it to him — Glenn Beck has come a long way from his humble cable TV and radio origins, taking Washington by storm today. What should we make of him? Is he a racist? Does he want to be President? What’s his relationship with Sarah Palin about? The Mormon thing?

Beck fits the bill as Anti-Christ neatly as he perverts and twists Christianity towards his own political purposes. The Tea Party and his ilk are nothing less than an attempt to turn America in a Theocracy and take away the civil rights of those who do not follow their way. It is fascinating to hear middle-class white Christians in America claim they are being discriminated against and is laughable and yet, that is exactly what Beck is feeding off of. There is no “attack upon Christianity” only the attempt to fulfill the ideas the USA was founded on, the right of every citizen to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

We are in a dangerous time and we can laugh at the Tea Party and Beck and the clueless rednecks, but they appear to actually belief their own bullshit and the last time white conservatives did that, they fired on Fort Sumter.

    • Haystack

The Beck/Palin/Tea Party ideology is the face of American fascism. Hopefully they'll never get the opportunity they're looking for.

  • Doctor

A fear monger is all he is, a safe fear monger. Fear is a most powerful weapon, the more people take him and Palin seriously the more distorted and confusing they get. Honestly, what is safer than him having an interview on FOX? Gregory has worded it quite well though, there is no threat to Christianity. All there is right now is a threat to freedom of religion, and it's a bit ridiculous.
Also a shame to the good Beck name. Mr. Campbell would not be pleased.

  • Haystack

The way he co-opted the anniversary of MLK's speech was sickening. If MLK were alive today, Beck would be denouncing him as a dangerous socialist.

  • sartorius

I haven't followed him at all, but judging by this interview he doesn't sound like the crazy racist crackpot I keep hearing about. I hear goofy. I hear “oops, shouldn't have said that”.
Aside from the “Let's all turn to God.” thing, I don't have anything to bitch about. And I came here to bitch. :(

    • connie dobbs

I think in Christian mythology, that's what the anti-christ does. What do I know, though – everything I know about the christian armageddon i learned from reading the backs of the left behind series, not the bible. Both sources are equally valid.

      • Butter Knife

I'm pretty sure that the Bible is a substantially more valid source on what the Bible says than the Left Behind series. Much like I think Barack Obama is a substantially more valid source on what Barack Obama says than Glenn Beck.

Actually, thinking about it, that's a pretty direct comparison. Both original sources say something that has a relatively complex, but overall reasonable message, and both secondary sources selectively compress the former into twisted little sound bites that support their warped worldviews. Go figure.

    • 5by5

Dude, when you start equating yourself to Moses, and thinking God speaks through you, time for a padded room. And Beckster thinks both those things.

  • Andrew

My understanding is that anyone who thinks someone else is a racist is really racist. Therefore since Beck thinks Obama is racist, Beck must be the real racist.

    • Earbudcontender

Not true. If some is being racist towards you to your face they are the racist one. But Beck is racist.

      • APR

The entire concept of “race” is racist.

        • connie dobbs

          That's racist!

          • Andrew

            So is that!

  • Turningfish

I don't have to hand anything to Beck. He's a sewer and a tax on the species.

  • Honuman

Beck is a circus clown. He knows what he's doing but it does surprise me that his asshatedness actually catches a fire amongst the brainwashed and the ignorant. Years from now I can't imagine he will be anything more than a novelty footnote. A melodramatic blowhard snakeoil salesman.

  • tonyviner

Can you believe a girl let this guy ejaculate inside of her? And, as if that weren't enough, I heard that he raped and killed a girl in 1990. Freakin' perv.

    • Haystack

Thank you for that mental image of Glenn Beck ejaculating.

    • 5by5

Great. Now I'm going to need to bleach my brain. :-)

  • Earbudcontender

This guys subtly spreads hate just to suck up to his demographic.

  • Proud American

I think you are all retarded!

    • connie dobbs

No one gives a shit what you think. You're a worthless piece of ignorant trash.

      • connie dobbs

        And I don't “think” that.

    • Honuman

Proud American….so being willfully ignorant and brainwashed is something to be proud of? Get the F outta here you troll.

    • Andrew

      Projection.

    • E.B. Wolf

Thinking is an Un-American activity. Just stare passively at the screen and do what it tells you like every real patriot should.

    • Haystack

Don't let Sarah Palin hear you say that.

  • APR

How do you spell it? E-N-T-E-R-T-A-I-N-M-E-N-T. Politicians, lawyers, “news” people, etc. are all ACTORS and SALESMEN. We watch them fiddle while Rome burns down. Bread and circuses? We have beer and TV.

The problem with Glenn Beck is that people give him attention

  • http://voxmagi-necessarywords.blogspot.com/ VoxMagi

Fear sells…and suckers are buying like never before. The only tragedy here is that this clown is being debated and taken seriously…the fact that I'm commenting on his existence and its theoretical impact on our culture is a cruel irony…because it lends him a relevance I would never willingly have granted him.

    • 5by5

Dude, that's ALL they have to sell. They have no policy ideas besides “cut taxes” (never grasping that if people have no incomes, there's no revenue to cut in the first fracking place) and spend money on war that we don't have.

Since both those things only serve to increase the deficit, this End of Days bullshit is all they've got. Religion is the first refuge of a scoundrel.

  • markincorsicana

“when fascism comes to america it will come draped in the flag and carrying a bible” almost a century ago Sinclair Lewis said this

  • Tuna Ghost

Glenn Beck makes me seriously consider violence as an acceptable means of political or social change. The problem is, my reasons for wanting to do violence upon this man is mainly due to aesthetics; he makes my world an uglier place, so I want to retaliate with violence. Not very mature, but there you go.

Yes, he is strangely not completely bonkers in this video, but judge the man by what he does rather than what he tells someone.

  • Fairtomidlands

Beck exists because reality is that S-corps and individuals of modest means are being plundered by a union controlled, for the few by the few, government that is a self-serving prophecy. Get a federal government that controls it’s spending, limits its powers and truly serves the people and we wouldn’t have a fear monger like Beck and perhaps not have to listen to any more of Palin’s ramblings.

Or we can look to another Stimulus? Smoke pot, drop a dose, then learn Mandarin as we are tooled into China's Socialist love child. Let the unions liberate the country.

Our current administration attacks a states immigration policy with as much or more fervor then that which they push on the newly nuclear empowered Iran. What is up with Clinton’s filing of the SB1070 bill to the U.N. over human rights? Really? Talk about empowering the Right and adding fuel to Beck and the notion of a systemically broke system. Obama and Clinton should face the issue head on. The Left has already screwed the pooch for the November elections and most likely the elections beyond –Obama make a stand and stop hiding behind a veil.

I guess it is easier to focus on Arizona than Iran. Let the Israeli’s work on the later; that could kill two birds with one stone. Brilliant!

Hope the blue bloods on both sides of the aisle enjoyed their well deserved vacation. Beck was out there working hard, preaching for “God and truth” to growing numbers of the Republic’s frightened populous and that is scary.

    • Haystack

” Get a federal government that controls it’s spending, limits its powers and truly serves the people and we wouldn’t have a fear monger like Beck and perhaps not have to listen to any more of Palin’s ramblings.”

The same people who harp on those things want to extend the Bush tax cuts on the rich (30% of the deficit), want the government to limit marriage to heterosexuals, and supported the previous president's deficit spending policies, Patriot Act, etc. Sarah Palin was McCain's running mate when he “suspended his campaign” to swoop into Washington to support the bank bailout.

You're giving Beck's supporters too much credit by supposing that they're reacting to Obama's actual policies, instead of the mere fact that a black democrat is in the White House.

    • Andrew

Really? The government is controlled by the unions? And not the corporations and banksters who contribute far more money to campaigns and actually help write some legislation? I find that hard to believe.

      • Fairtomidlands

Here is a list of the top 129 donors of the past 20 years which as you can see is heavily weighted in the giving unions favor. Now if you want to put PAC's into the mix then unions really dominate. Unions are much more of an influence then you wish to believe within the policy and legislation of our government.

Are you completely ignoring the fact that the uncontrolled spending and unlimited power type of government was made by the same exact people who are bitching about it now? Or is it that subjective memory loss koolaid that the tea party hands out you've been drinking? The country was even more fascistly fucked 5 years ago, but everyone was too busy buying their SUV's and happy meals to notice. It's easy to fall out of line when you switch cheerleaders, isn't it?

Oh and ha ha on the unions. You're absolutely wrong on it, you should probably research it a bit more than just “sound bites”. Maybe talk to some union representatives and find out what the real impact and power that labor unions have. But even with that being said, I'll paraphrase Peter Gabriel and say “I'd rather trust a labor man than a bank man”.

      • Fairtomidlands

        Connie:

It may have been more apropos to reference Gabriel's stanza “Red rain is coming down.”

Check out this article about a union controlled state that is about to implode based on bad state legislation from 11 years ago. It will make the EU's problems with Greece and Spain seem trivial.
