Watch A Never-Before-Screened Scene Cut from the Original ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy

Cut from "Return Of The Jedi"Looks like Gawker is keeping it on the ‘net here:

This is incredibly epic …

A never-before-screened scene cut from Return of the Jedi in which Darth Vader tempts Luke Skywalker to join the dark side, paired with footage of Luke constructing/activating his green lightsaber and officially becoming a Jedi Knight.

  1. Waste of time.

  2. Needs moar gratuitous CGI.

  3. Who's that guy sitting with Michael Mcdonald? and why are they talking about Star Wars?

  4. George Lukas cares more about Star Wars toys then plot elements…

he needs to let go of starwars,
imagine how people would act if coppela sat around and still crowed about making “the godfather”

I really can't believe they took that out. Thats an amazing scene.

    • Luke looks like a total badass in that scene, all hunkered down in his meditation cave, tweaking his weapon, readying for battle. That was wicked cool. Totally should have left that in, and dumped all the cheesy CGI characters that they inserted into the first Trilogy.

Every time I see a replay of the “original” Star Wars Trilogy on the teevee and they play the digitally altered versions, it pisses me off, because they aren't historically accurate anymore. It's like colorizing a black & white film. It sucks. Putting back footage that was originally shot at the time, but not included like this, would be fine for a Director's Cut, but going back and slapping in things that they simply weren't capable of at the time? Lame.

And I like Muppet Yoda hella better than Digital Yoda too. Frank Oz is just a better actor/puppeteer, and the character feels more real.

totally, old-skool monsters rule. my personal favourites are the ones in “clash of the titans” and “jason&the argonauts”. much scarier than any CGI i've ever seen. ray harryhausen was a genius.

The first(first) two were mostly innocent, return of the jedi not so much (http://io9.com/5611489/original-star-wars-produ…). There's been brilliant films since the 70s it's just that they rarely get a look in at whatever uberplex theatres. Jim Jarmusch, Coen Bros, Lynch and co are still making films.

exactly. star wars pretty much invented the blockbuster, and the rest is history…
