Murdering People Who Disagree With You

The 10:10 organisation — heavily funded by big industry — just released and then promptly withdrew — a “funny” mini-film featuring the murder of schoolchildren who disagree with their wacky beliefs:

Indeed, the joke was funny when it was original and not part of governmental/industrial backed social movement (EDIT: and didn’t involve children). I was a big fan of Blackadder myself. Pity.

I thought the kids blowing up was pretty funny.(EDIT: I want one of those buzzers for my next flight). Politically unwise maybe but I’m sure the kids had a blast filming it (hurr). It’s not real you know. Perhaps the ‘big industry’ on the other side of the fence should get one of their funded organizations to produce a video about how we can all get along.

“Perhaps the ‘big industry’ on the other side of the fence”

There is no big industry on the other side of the fence.

I guess you only have mom and pop operations like, oh, ExxonMobil. right?

Wow, hundred of thousand of pounds eh?

How’s about the $100million ExxonMobil is giving to Stanford to promote the confidence trick:

Oh, wait, I get it, dumbsaint. Exxon are giving two orders of magnitude more cash to their opponents as some sort of double-limited hangout-multiple bluff. You should link a donate button to pay for extra layers on your tinfoil hat.

  9. Anonymous | Oct 2, 2010 at 4:22 am |

Right and all of Exxon’s lobbying money made the EPA declare CO2 a pollutant?Open your eyes.

    “Then there’s these guys:”
Even if that were not just made up it would still be less than what Exxon gave to support the confidence trick.

  10. Anonymous | Oct 2, 2010 at 4:30 am |

You clearly don’t get much. Providing funding for research of new technologies is not the same thing as providing funding for political lobby.

Exxon has had extremely messy public relations over this issue. If you seriously trying to position Exxon on the side of environmentalists that’s nothing short of mental.

  14. Not about murdering people; it’s about what happens if no one does anything. Yes, it’s tasteless and way too over the top, but that’s the message – not “murder” if you dont agree.

Would also love to know what the “big industry” is that you claim funded it. Links we can check out?

to be fair, they are putting those windmills all over the western isles, where i am now, and where it is currently blowing a force ten gale. and this is an average day.

wind power doesn’t seem so silly up here.

          • Windmills don’t generate power in a force ten gale.

          • gemmarama | Oct 2, 2010 at 1:44 pm |

i didn’t say they do. the winds change in seconds here. it’s now calmed down to a breezy 16kmph and i can see the ten wind turbines up at dunvegan spinning merrily from my window.

          • Right, my apologies, you said a force ten gale was an average day.

Those turbines are about 17% efficient. Half what the industry claimed.

unfortunately they’re not perfect. they’re also backed up by generators for when it’s not windy. some people up here think tidal power is the answer as, well, the tide always comes in, but the environmental implications to marine life are considerable… wish someone would just hurry up with that perpetual motion machine.

don’t beg anybody’s pardon, you need better reading comprehension. it reads “…currently blowing a force ten gale. and this is an average day.” as opposed to “…currently blowing a force ten gale and this is average.”

          • To be technically correct, one TYPE of windmill design has to actually slow the amount of spinning done by the blades due to the role vibration plays on the structure, but other, newer designs (like DNA turbines) handle much more powerful winds better, from more directions (especially useful on inner city rooftops) with virtually no issues with vibration. As with everything else, the technology gets better with time.

And had we continued to fund research at the proper levels, we’d no doubt be even further ahead, but one of Bush’s first acts after he stole office was to cut alternative energy research funding by 50%. Because he’s a moron and an oil energy shill, with an oil industry shill puppetmaster in DICK Cheney. Now THAT’s doing the bidding of big industry…. indeed those two are big industry’s bitches.

          • Show me one type of windmill that generates power in a force ten gale. Other than the power to tear itself apart if the brakes fail.

It’s depressing that you’ve been brainwashed into thinking that Bush is any different from Clinton or Obama. They’re all playing on the same team.

    • Wrong. In the clip, the teacher very deliberately pushes a button, which kills the children. It’s not about “what happens if no one does anything”, as it is not natural consequences portrayed in the video. “You disagree, we’ll murder you” is clearly the message.

    • Not really a response but I am short on time and don’t seem to see the post spot. Like that you are commenting on things YOU can see as opposed to things shown to us onscreen.

Anyway I think the ice age is coming to an end and the earth is returning to a more normal temperature. I also think this normal temperature is not at all good for humans. AND I agree with the posters who advocate an end to pollution, toxic waste dumping and the sludge and red toxic mud flowing into some very interesting places, the e-coli filtering into the water table, the garbage dump being built underground in Simcoe County Ontario Canada which will contaminate a vast reservoir of very pure water in a huge aquifer, etc. etc.etc. Exxon Valdez, BP, chemical waste, the white foam in the great lakes and in the rivers which feed them, the children with cancer. Chernobyl. and all the rest. Now…when I tire of this computer or need to get rid of my old shoes or wish to dispose of my waste or that of my animals I am going to compound the problem. When I buy a bottle of vitamins I am compounding the problem. When I buy toys for the less fortunate at christmas they must be new and in the vast amount of packaging. So – I compound the problem further. Global warming makes no sense. Pollution is the issue at hand. The planet is going to get hotter. Colder would be preferable as we deal better with that. The heating is being accelerated but not caused by humans and their herds. We can deal with it but it will not be fun.

Wow… This is what happens when your pseudoscience isn’t fooling anyone anymore.
You have to resort to insinuate torture and dismemberment for the non-believers.

Also the entire assumption that Co2 beyond 350 ppm is a danger zone is entirely fabricated.
We have had pre-industrial concentrations of Co2 well beyond 350 ppm since the mid 19th century.

    • No sugar, the “pseudoscience” is what you believe. I’m looking at research from reputable climatologists from over 120 countries who all show their data pointing in the same direction — man-made catastrophic climate change. But then you’re the type who probably doesn’t “believe” in the science of evolutionary change either. Here’s the thing — it doesn’t require your belief. It’s a fact whether you believe it or not.

5 years from now, when people are dieing by the millions in resource wars and everyone realises global warming was a scam to tax everyone, everyone will laugh at this video and say “thank fuck those brainwashed pseudointellectuals shot themselves in the foot.”

  56. Iraq was arguably a resource motivated war; Afghanistan was to disrupt a growing network of ever more capable militants — while its execution has been flawed, let’s not re-write the history books in regards to its motivation just yet.

  57. Actually the point of the video is to lampoon those seen as fringe liberals who ordain those not concerned and or involved with fighting climate change as evil/corrupt/etc, so the point is a litte different than your interpretation. Very subtle propaganda is the most effective, no?

  58. Oh christ, get a sense of humour will you, it is supposed to be a funny, light-hearted wake up call to people who believe in doing nothing to prevent that ‘wacky’ belief held by many, many people including thew vast majority of scientists qualified to comment on climate change.
personally, even as a Brit, I don’t find it very funny, but it is well within the bounds of normal for British comedy.
I am not sure quite how well FergallR is qualified in commenting either on the humour (not being a Brit) or on the ‘wacky’ belief that we ar doing bad things to our planets climate (not being a climate change, or even an Earth Sciences scientist. Until he is I shall treat what he says much as I treat this film – funny but in no way something to take any notice of in a serious discussion.

    • First of all who cares if you’re Brit it has nothing to with this wanker of a video. Did I use the slang wanker right?

This propaganda is a big business con job on the people that only big business can talk intelligently about our climate. What does big business have to gain if we all just shut our mouths and let the big business dictate the debate?

Your BP Oil messed up the Gulf of Mexico and wanted the people of the United States to pay for the cleanup. That is the big business solution to all debates. They take all the profits and we pay for all the cleanup.

So while you are doing your sex with big business which in my opinion is disgusting, the rest of us would like to say this video is bullocks. Did I get that slang right?

      • gemmarama | Oct 8, 2010 at 5:52 pm |

your use of “wanker” is wholly incorrect.

so what if BP is a british company? are you trying to say an american corporation has never done anything wrong? they’re a multinational, it doesn’t matter where they were founded, they’re scum.

“doing your sex with big business”? is english your first language?

a bullock is a male bovine.

        wanker (correct usage).

        • Thank you for the lesson. One question, “the last line in your post, is that supposed to apply to you?”

Please don’t pretend that I knew British slang, if I did I wouldn’t be asking if I was correct or not.

In reply to your question, “is english is my first language?”, I wasn’t taught the King’s English, if that is what you are getting at. My apologies for not being proper. It’s just that I thought it would mislead people as to what class I belong to if I said something like, “Kissing big Business arse”, or is “ass” your cup of tea?

Your defense of BP is astonishing, bravo, “So what if BP is a british company?” I’m speechless.

But hey let’s bury the hatchet. I’m on your side. I’m with you on they’re all scum. If you want to make me a joke go for it, I’m big enough to laugh at myself. P.S. I really do not know British slang and I’m sincere about that.

i’d suggest that if you don’t understand how to use a certain vocabulary, you go with something more familiar to you? that way, far from being “proper”, you might just make some sense.why are you so concerned with class? all i was “getting at” is that your phrasing is somewhat bizarre.i don’t know how exactly you’re interpreting me calling them “scum” as a “defence” of BP… all i was saying is that it doesn’t really help anyone blaming the country of its origin for a company’s sins. the folk who run BP have about as much in common with the average british person as the people in charge of exxon mobil have with the general US population. these people are evil; their nationality is irrelevant.

No. We are fucking made of carbon. The real issue is TOXIC WASTE and POLLUTION in the water and air. Remember when we fucking cared about THAT issue? Stop taking one of these two “Sides” you are presented with on this pseudo issue. Same thing as the evolution debate, the abortion debate etc. There are rational ways to think about these things which do not include taking a “Side”. BTW, the monty python skit was funny, but this video shows how fucked Britain is in terms of social psychology and stigma.

  71. FergalR, you’re either the biggest troll, or the dumbest person I’ve seen online, both of which is saying alot

seems a little over the top.
especially since all i can think about are people who are dying from cancer and disease brought on by industrial waste dumped into the environment.
maybe climate change is false…. but it doesn’t mean you get to dump mercury into my water supply.

  74. Not really a response but I am short on time and don’t seem to see the post spot.

  75. Nope. Roman Catholics. Check out the Huguenot massacres in France.

i’d suggest that if you don’t understand how to use a certain vocabulary, you go with something more familiar to you? that way, far from being “proper”, you might just make some sense.why are you so concerned with class? all i was “getting at” is that your phrasing is somewhat bizarre.i don’t know how exactly you’re interpreting me calling them “scum” as a “defence” of BP… all i was saying is that it doesn’t really help anyone blaming the country of its origin for a company’s sins. the folk who run BP have about as much in common with the average british person as the people in charge of exxon mobil have with the general US population. these people are evil; their nationality is irrelevant.
