White House To Go Solar

The White House is going green. First Michelle Obama began a vegetable garden, now they’re installing solar panels. The Obama’s are encouraging an environmentally conscious lifestyle. From The Environmental Leader:

The White House announced plans to install solar panels and a solar hot water heater on the roof of the White House Residence. These two solar installations will be part of a Department of Energy (DOE) demonstration project that shows that American solar technologies are available and reliable for installation in homes throughout the country, according to the DOE.

President Jimmy Carter installed solar panels on the White House’s West Wing 31 years ago but they were removed by his successor, Ronald Reagan, reports Bloomberg.

“President Obama has said the Federal Government has to lead by example in creating opportunity and jobs in clean energy,” said Nancy Sutley, Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, in a statement. ”By installing solar panels on arguably the most famous house in the country, his residence, the President is underscoring that commitment to lead and the promise and importance of renewable energy in the United States.”

More proof that Obama is like Carter? At least he’ll be a great diplomat in thirty years.

if Obama says that the federal government should lead by example…why not do so by being a bit more fiscally responsible? shrink the govt instead of expanding it? what a scam artist!

Funny. The administration decided to do this about 2 weeks after Bill McKibben and some students did a publicity stunt asking the president to reinstall a few of Carter’s old panels. At the time, they just flat out rejected the panels. I guess that would be too inspiring for people who care about environmental issues.

This is classic Obama: do something to placate the population while ensuring that no real change happens and the business class is not disturbed by any government policies.

19 days. I wonder if that’s how long it takes your average American to forget the news?

It’s funny how Obama’s “great” things are all so gimmicky yet when it comes to real policy he’s no different from bush. Who would have thought you got a nobel peace prize for that. Compare all the other nobel peace prize winners and it makes me think that it’s now sooo easy, do I deserve one more for not flushing the toilet every time I go to the toilet?
