Save The Date: Jesus Returns May 21, 2011!

Jesus Is BackBob Smietana writes in the Tennessean:

That’s the message on 40 billboards around Nashville, proclaiming May 21, 2011, as the date of the Rapture. Billboards are up in eight other U.S. cities, too.

Fans of Family Radio Inc., a nationwide Christian network, paid for the billboards. Family Radio’s founder, Harold Camping, predicted the May date for the Rapture.

Their message is simple — “He Is Coming Again” — and their aim is to get unbelievers to turn around quickly. But critics say the billboards are a waste of time, one more failed attempt to predict the end of the world.

Have these people ever actually *read* their Bibles? Their holiest of books is rather clear that one cannot possibly know when their Messiah will be back in town. He’s like that one friend from college who calls from the airport and asks to crash with you, even though you haven’t spoken in 2000 years.

    • Anonymous

He has an argument for that, I saw the video of a Christian phoning in saying exactly that and Camping gives some sort of argument why he can know, hence “WeCanKnow”.com

5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

Remember Camping is not selling anything on the radio to make money. Family radio was always free to the listerners.
What has he to gain by sticking his neck out like this???
If the end comes, he is off and if the end does not come he is off. He is doing this because he truly believes God is using him for this message. What does he have to gain? I don;t have the kind of courage he has. Just think what he is putting out there.
I remember the professors in Seminary telling us that the Genelogies in the Bible are only important to trace the line of the prophets. They discounted the actually life spans. Think of it, It would take an engineer to learn the significance of the numbers so God could give us a warning of the actually end.
Whether he is right of wrong we will know it in less than 4 months.
But, you have to ask yourself, look at the state of the world. That is more scary than judgment day. What the heck is going yo happen to us if May 21, 2011 does not happen.

        • Andrew

The state of the world is scarier than judgment day? Sounds to me like you’re really motivated more by fear than hope, which is true of most of us, and that’s why you try to frighten people into believing in your God with threats of damnation.

According to Share International, Jesus has been in a Syrian body for the last 670 plus years and now lives outside of Rome. Many daily see him around the world. So his coming could be seen as old news.

If it is about everyone seeing him, that is indicated to happen when his teacher, the World Teacher Maitreya, introduces him. Maitreya has been on an American television program at least 27 times since last December.

As far as a timetable for wider viewership, it has been said to be predicated on reaction to the message of the need for global sharing. The viewpoint that many hold of sharing being socialism – with socialism being viewed negatively – has been a major reason for Jesus not being able to come forward. Everyone seeing Jesus could have happened in the early 1980s but too many Americans, including Christians, were not ready.

    • Andrew

You lost me at the first sentence.

      • Alturn

Jesus is not a figment of the imagination but a real historical person. Since his historical mission, it is indicated that, just like the rest of us, he has reincarnated. The difference is that Jesus now is what is called a Master of Wisdom, or one who has transcended the limitations of the standard human state. When you are a Master you have purified your body to the degree that it can last for hundreds, or thousands, of years without degradation or aging. That is how Jesus can be in the same body for that long. There are numerous Masters in the world in bodies of significant age. Leonard Orr was one that researched what he termed the ‘immortals’.

The limitations of our knowledge of what we can become limits the understanding of the beauty of our journey.

I’m fortunate enough to have a copy of an old Christian 1912 newspaper, complete with whacky screeds against whatever sin was on the ‘shitlist’ that day. Included were prophecies regarding the end times, the Rapture, and the dates for said events.

Batshit has always sold well…especially when it promises a free ticket out of having to live with the consequences of your actions. This is no different.

    • RevFred

Sooner or later one of these predictions has got to be right! Look at the world today. How would you fix it?
The world is in such a mess our only hope is God’s return. You who don’t want him to return, ask yourself: Who is going to help the world. The world is truly beyond any human help. No jobs, no money, no future. Governments around the world in unrest! Greed and violence and vice has already destroyed our world. Now our only salvation is the Lord’s intervention.

      • http://voxmagi-necessarywords.blogspot.com/ VoxMagi

Uh huh…so your theory is that…since no one is doing enough to make thing’s better…the answer is to quit entirely and encourage others to quit trying as well…and then just wait for God to end the world so that no one has to deal with the mess they made?

No thanks…your kind are the source of the laziness and apathy that have infected the world and Christianity. God is not a Merry Maid service…neither is God a parent who cleans up his childrens messes for them…if anything, like a good parent…he’ll let us stew in our own mess until we clean it up.

The end of the world won’t come and rescue you from living with the consequences of your choices…I’d recommend working hard in your community to actually improve it like the liberals here do…but thats too much to expect of the fringe cases who choose a death cult over life and hard work.

I want to know NOW what they will say when it doesn’t happen. Someone needs to ask them what it means if/when it does not occur. Of course they will first insist it will happen… but o.k., what if… just suppose…if doesn’t. let’s get the excuses out right now. What I want them to admit, but they will not do so, is that their failure to be correct on this NECESSARILY implies that everything they believe about this bullshit is also not true.
