UN Warns Of Cancer From Climate Change

Scaremongering to create a worldwide carbon tax? Or is this a reality? From the Daily Mail:

Melting glaciers and ice sheets are releasing cancer-causing pollutants into the air and oceans, scientists say. The long-lasting chemicals get into the food chain and build up in people’s bodies – triggering tumours, heart disease and infertility.

The warning comes in a new international study into the links between climate change and a class of man-made toxins called persistent organic pollutants. The study – due to be published next month – says rising temperatures and more extreme weather are increasing human exposure to pollutants around the world, including in Britain.

Scientists are concerned about Persistent Organic Pollutants, or POPs, because they last decades in the environment and accumulate in body tissue. They include pesticides such as DDT and chemicals called PCBs used in electrical goods.

Donald Cooper, of the United Nations Environment Programme which published the report at the UN climate talks in Cancun, Mexico, said melting glaciers and ice sheets were releasing POPs trapped years ago into the air and seas…

Such propaganda. Can we make a comparison to the dangers of food additives, something that (unlike climate change) is actually man-made? I suppose if we pay $100 billion per year in carbon tax, the UN
and the world bank will reverse the danger and save the planet.

another thing they can blame on global warming

really now, lets *start* by paying attention what we’re ALREADY releasing into the environment, into our water, and into our food

To answer your question, yes, this is scaremongering to create a worldwide carbon tax. Is it reality? Who knows! Odds are no one will really know for another generation or so. But some fairly clever people got together and said “How can we make a buck off this?”

A carbon tax. The USA PATRIOT act, renditions, black sites, and international torture programs are all still going strong, an extrajudicial assassination program is in the works, and I’m supposed to worry about a massive worldwide conspiracy to enact a fucking carbon tax?

The Daily is one of Englands finest fishwrappers…and thats about it. You can find the science pages right next to the stories about the face of Christ in a pancake and Bigfoots new romantic rendezvous with Elvis (wedding album photos on page 13).

I’d be satisfied if we could actually manage to pry Al Gore and the rest of the Greenies away from carbon tax fantasies long enough to pass a few regulations against serious carcinogens and pollutants that aren’t even in dispute and need to be booted out of industry and off shelves immediately…

…but that would be productive and worthwhile…so I’m not holding my breath on this happening soon.

    • EAGD

It would also be very unprofitable to the “Green-Preachers” who have conveniently set themselves up to profit from the carbon trading scam.
