Miley Cyrus has one-upped Michael Phelps’s infamous bong-smoking incident by filling hers with the psychedelic plant Salvia divinorum (see video below). Could Salvia become the next hot drug on campus in the U.S.? Comments especially welcome from anyone who has experience with the Magic Mint.

This is retarded. Obviously she didn’t get enough Salvia in her system, or she wouldn’t be talking about her boyfriend and giggling… she’d be holding on for dear life and tripping her tits off. Her friends are annoying as well, treating the whole ordeal like a circus sideshow. No respect for the drug. If Miley Cyrus really wants to trip, I can set her up with some DMT. As it stands though, this video is just going to give the drug a bad rap, just like every other “idiot teenagers getting high” video that gets posted on Youtube. If you’re gonna film yourself doing drugs, at least post up the INTERESTING trips. I want to hear Miley Cirus go all Joe Rogan and start raving about her contact with extraterrestrials, elves and becoming one with the Universe.

I’ve never tried anything (not even cannabis!) – I’ve got some hawaiian baby woodrose seeds I bought some weeks ago and I’m just waiting for the right timing to try it with a friend – and I’d love me some DMT.     Gil – good luck with the tripping. Some people are fine with handling hallucinogens, others not so much. The determining factor, at least in my mind is the genuine desire to do them, as well as an intense curiosity… and the intellectual capacity to actually process the experience probably helps too. I think everyone should try them at least once in the correct environment. As Terrence McKenna said, living your life without ever having a psychedelic experience is much like going your grave without having had sex… you’d really be missing out on what it’s all about. Baby Woodrose is LSA… if you take them, use a good extraction technique, as I’ve heard the coating can make you sick. Also check into DMT Nexus. But I recommend easing into psychedelics. And for God’s sake, smoke a joint or something before trying something like DMT or Salvia… I mean, not totally necessary, but probably a good idea.

    While, from a moral and political standpoint, I think all drugs should be decriminalized, a person would be wise to consider all drugs to be dangerous to some extent. My best personal advice, 1. Don’t do it. It’s against the law, 2. If you do it anyway, don’t underestimate the chemical and don’t take the results it too seriously. I’ve never had too much fun on salvia. It’s more weird, if anything. I’d recommend LSD or psilosybin mushrooms to someone really trying to ‘trip’. Or DMT for those of you who want a short, intense trip. But start small, and just remember that yo’ ass is just trippin’.

I’ve done salvia a few times and I’ve sat for a lot of people. This girl is not on salvia. Giggling is one thing – a lot of people for whom I’ve sat have had giggle fits – but salvia giggles are distinct (and kind of haunting).

I don’t do salvia anymore, for several reasons, but I despair when I see people like Miley Cyrus drawing attention to such things. Some girls still look up to her and they are all too young to be using anything like salvia – age doesn’t even matter; if you’re looking up to Miley Cyrus you could be 80 and still too young to go around using entheogens.

It will be another round of scheduling efforts by state and federal governments. Thanks for everything, Miley.

My brother wondered if this behavior might actually result in her creating music worth hearing. I had to scrap the idea because there’s no way to accurately gauge any changes. After all…if you start off with no talent of any kind, how can we tell if any vague improvement is related to drug use…or just age and experience? Salvia is a serious drug, legal in various strengths at headshops. to experience full trip one would need to empty lungs of air, fill lungs with smoke, and hold for as long as you possibly can, then let go, perhaps repeat up to about 5 times. The experience can change one for a lifetime and is used in serious shamanic initiation. Willy-nilly use is not recommended, spiritual advisors should be present, set and setting compassionately considered. No smoke is healthy. Buyer beware.

Salvia is really incapable of becoming the ‘next big drug’ – It only lasts 2 minutes, is an extremely overpowering and introverted experience and quickly repeated use really gives the user no extra effects. Also, the come down is pretty uncomfortable. Its great for an extremely mental 2 minutes but in regards the effects of other social drugs, it is really just a peculiarity.

Also, I don’t know about the US but it is available to buy in shops all over the EU for years – It hasn’t ‘Taken Off’ yet and doesn’t look like it will.

Its a pity this video has been released, because there will surely be a knee jerk reaction by a few mid range politicians in the US.

My own experience was that it left me hovering a foot above my actual body, for a couple of hours…
The problem was that it left me so light sensitive that I had to convince my bosses that there was legitimate reason for me wearing my sunglasses all week at work…
Here in Australia, though, it is illegal now. (or at least, not legal…)

I had some weaker salvia and then some stronger stuff but its just not something that is really enjoyable or something you want to do multiple times. Its interesting though and lasts like 10 minutes but then you just feel plain different for the next hour
