NYPD Officers’ Counter-Terrorism Trainings Feature A Muslim-Bashing Film

Via The Raw Story:

New York Police Department officers who showed up for mandatory counter-terrorism training were shown a “spectacularly offensive” anti-Muslim film claiming that American Muslims are secretly plotting to take over the country, a news report alleged Wednesday.

The news is further evidence that US law enforcement agencies are turning to extremist anti-Islamic “consultants” to provide training for terrorism investigations.

According to the Village Voice‘s Tom Robbins, the NYPD used a film called “The Third Jihad” in training sessions this month. Robbins described the film as

72 minutes of gruesome footage of bombing carnage, frenzied crowds, burning American flags, flaming churches, and seething mullahs. All of this is sandwiched between a collection of somber talking heads informing us that, while we were sleeping, the international Islamist Jihad that wrought these horrors has set up shop here and is quietly going about its deadly business. This is the final drive in a 1,400-year-old bid for Muslim world domination, we’re informed.

Admitting that it was a “wacky movie,” deputy NYPD commissioner Paul Browne initially told the Voice that the film had never been shown to officers. “It was reviewed and found to be inappropriate,” he said.

One guess which political party hosts the guy who recommended that as training material.

Maybe if Muslims devoted more time to stopping their extremist brothers instead of quietly supporting them, we wouldn’t have films full of footage of Muslim extremists promoting hate and terror abroad and at home because they wouldn’t be necessary. No one needs to pass around films of Christian extremists because they don’t receive widespread support from other Christians. If another 9/11 were in progress, CAIR would be suing anyone reporting on it as part of a conspiracy to hate on Muslims and after it happened they would pretend like Muslims weren’t involved.

oh so partisan propaganda encouraging prejudicial treatment of a portion of the american population is ok, good to know.

      • Synapse

Nope, but apparently neither are films investigating the operations trying to bring terrorism to America, which is basically all the Third Jihad is. No where in the film would you find anything encouraging what you suggest. You can say these films are exaggerating the abilities of extremist groups in America, but for some reason the PC world tells us we can’t even talk about terrorist threats without it automatically meaning “hate all muslims”or some such nonsense.

Sounds like a kid I saw on a college campus wearing a t-shirt that says “Being Muslim is not a crime,” accurate but the completely wrong understanding. Being a Muslim isn’t a crime, and not all Muslims are terrorists, but all the significant terrorist groups out there today that are threatening the world ARE Muslim. Of course, the people wearing that shirt refuse to acknowledge that ANY Muslims are terrorists, further going into PC territoriality about how they can’t be Muslims because they hurt people.

        • Hadrian999

showing these kinds of films in police training is going to have the effect of getting police to treat all Muslims as suspects, it will lead to lazy policework.

I agree with Synapse. Law enforcement agents–or any citizen, for that matter–have to maintain an accurate awareness of which physical and cultural markers are associated with certain crimes if they want to deal with those crimes effectively. Unfortunately, profiling is not always effective, and it may lead to unfair treatment. The only other choice is to bury your head in the sand, pretend like the brotherhood of man will simply take care of itself, and wait for the next attack.

The same sort of unfair profiling is presently being aimed at fringe right-wingers. Most Tea Partiers, conspiracy theorists, and general schizoids are not going to start firing off rounds into a crowd. But it is quite likely a few will–bunker-dwellers are much more likely to unload a magazine on a perceived enemy than a nun, right? Jared Loughner falls into a type–and he is not the first or the last of that type to plan or execute a violent attack. Leftists were very quick to point accusing fingers at the right, to demonize certain viewpoints associated with Loughner and his ilk, and generally pitch a hysterical temper tantrum, much like so-called patriots did toward Muslims after 9/11. The scary thing is, they both have a point. Those same patriots now act like Loughner was a fluke. He wasn’t–anyone who follows the paranoid, pissed off, borderline violent rhetoric on the fringes of the right knows that Loughner’s attack was inevitable.

The footage on this training video is like Glenn Beck with a taqiyah cap. Would you prefer that we pretended such dangerous views did not exist? Would you be willing to protect violent right-wingers with the same gentle concern that you seem to be directing toward Islam?

over reacting plays into the hands of of extremists elements of every kind, yes there are violent muslim elements but treating every muslim like an enemy will drive more into that camp, solid, methodical police work is the answer.
