Sarah Palin has posted a video statement about the shootings in Arizona by Jared Loughner, entitled “America’s Enduring Strength,” on her new Vimeo Channel. She accuses journalists of a “Blood Libel” against her, calling it “reprehensible”:

Yeah, that was pretty nauseating. So we “resisted the urge” to trade liberty for imagined security in the wake of 9-11, did we? And of course, we all know that Mrs. Palin and her allies have -never- made efforts to “muzzle dissent with shrill cries of imagined insults.”

It’s absurd to say that she’s directly or culpably responsible for Loughner’s actions, but it’s equally absurd to say that a person’s behaviors are independent of the social context in which the person lived. She knows full well that she lamented — repeatedly and out loud — “oh, who will rid me of this troublesome priest?” … and then, lo and behold, someone did.

Kind of like it’s reprehensible to draw up a map with your enemies names on it and crosshairs over their names then send a message to looneys to not retreat and rearm. Her *** needs to be in a cell next to Manson because she did the exact same thing he did. Either that or let Manson out and give him a group of kids to talk to and maps to her house with crosshairs over her name to handout to them if there really is nothing wrong with drawing up maps of where people live with gun sights over their names.

The way I see it, there are three possibilities.

1) She randomly combined those words with no knowledge of their past meaning because she’s really that illiterate and is a total innocent being cruelly maligned for a poor word choice.

2) She knows exactly what it means and its context and used it anyway with some degree of spite.

3) She may have vaguely grasped its historical context…and being consumed by her martyr complex…immediately felt that the murder of innocent Jewish people throughout history was totally comparable to her being called out in public for perpetuating violent imagery and rhetoric.

To give her credit…I’m banking on 3. She really is that vapid, self absorbed, and persecution-complex driven. She’s at a loss to understand why people won’t accept her repeated dodges on the subject of the AZ killings…even while other pols, D and R alike, are stepping up and swearing off hardcore rhetoric. No one seriously expects her to take all the blame…but standing up and saying “I too have participated in making politics a blood sport and cheering on rampant wingnuttery.” would make everyone nod with approval and applaud her wisdom and candor…but she can’t do this simple thing because she’s not wrong, she’s never wrong and people are just ‘picking on her’.

Yes, Sarah…we’re just picking on you…the same way a cop picks on the drunk guy who crashed into a telephone pole right in front of a squad car. Or the way cops pick on the husband who is in the middle of beating his wife silly when they show up. Or the way people pick on a person for arson or robbery when they’re caught on camera and there’s no doubt about who did what. Prisons are FULL of people who have an explanation for why what they did was not wrong and they don’t belong there…and that state of mind…that’s why they are there.
