Thousands Of Dead Birds Mysteriously Fell From Sky On New Year’s Eve In Arkansas

Here’s to an ominous start for 2011 — on January 1, residents across northwestern Arkansas awoke to find their front lawns littered with blackbird carcasses, the Christian Science Monitor notes. Scientists have not yet been able to provide an explanation.

    There was no pollution or poison found in the birds and the only birds affected were red winged black birds. As someone already posted here there was a tornado, and general bad weather the night before, also black birds are almost blind when flying at night (the usually roost up and sleep until light). There is a theory that fireworks or other loud noises on new years eave may have scared the birds and they may have collided with each other, houses, cars, etc. in a blind panic when frightened.
