What Did We Learn From WikiLeaks?

AP101130113075_244x183The mainstream media’s coverage of WikiLeaks has largely focused on Julian Assange’s sexy exploits — to the extent that one might forget about the actual leaked files. CBS admirably has an overview of the wealth of enlightening and interesting information that WikiLeaks has revealed to us. For starters:

- The Obama administration worked with Republicans during his first few months in office to protect Bush administration officials facing a criminal investigation overseas for their involvement in establishing policies that some considered torture.

- Anglo-Dutch oil giant Royal Dutch Shell PLC has infiltrated the highest levels of government in Nigeria.

- Pope Benedict impeded an investigation into alleged child sex abuse within the Catholic Church.

- BP suffered a blowout after a gas leak in the Caucasus country of Azerbaijan in September 2008, a year and a half before another BP blowout killed 11 workers and started a leak that gushed millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.

- NATO had secret plans to defend the Baltic states and Poland from an attack by Russia.

- Contrary to public statements, the Obama administration actually helped fuel conflict in Yemen. The U.S. was shipping arms to Saudi Arabia for use in northern Yemen even as it denied any role in the conflict.

- Pakistan’s government has allowed members of its spy network to hold strategy sessions on combating American troops with members of the Taliban, while Pakistan has received more than $1 billion a year in aid from Washington to help combat militants

actually, that one got highlighted here at disinfo awhile back, just after Wikileaks posted it.

That is one story I wish some reporter would look into to see how High, and how Long this has been going on. This could go all the way back to Nebraska state senator DeCamp, Paul Bonacci, and others?

Well, it’s not a bad summation, except left out a bunch of stuff (that’s CBS, I speak of) including all that criminally implicating stuff on the government colluding, aiding and abetting Monsanto.

No thanks on those Terminator Seeds, etc.

Also, please don’t forget those SARs from Afghanistan which were Wikileaked — demonstrates that the military is killing everyone other there BUT the Taliban.

Now, I haven’t read any of the wikileak blogs because I only recently found out about it (I don’t watch the news much). So I’m really skeptical as to how plausible this guy’s “leaks” really are.

don’t take his word for it, read them and look at the total government hissyfit they are causing. the site definitely isn’t user friendly though

They have been consistently proven to be accurate.

A lot of these were non-secret secrets…in the sense that the information was never formally acknowledged by any government…but was bandied about by a lot of alternative news sources that lacked definitive proof…which Wikileaks has finally provided.

One example would be the NATO plans in eastern Europe. No one…absolutely no one…save for the most gullible swill guzzling, hand fed innocents…even remotely believed that the missile shield for Eastern Europe was to protect the Balkans, Poland and other states from an Iranian missile attack. It was abundantly clear, to the Russians as well as everyone else, that the plan was to protect those areas from any potential assault by the former Soviet Union (The Federated Gangster Mafia States Of Russia). The cables have only confirmed what wasn’t admitted out loud by NATO states.
