Immigration Officer Put Wife On Terrorist List To Prevent Her Coming Home

20091093356Come on guys, the War on Terror is a serious matter! From Great Britain, hijinks ensue as immigration officials put their nagging wives on the terrorist watchlist to prevent their returning from overseas vacation. The Daily Mail reports:

An immigration officer tried to rid himself of his wife by adding her name to a list of terrorist suspects.

He used his access to security databases to include his wife on a watch list of people banned from boarding flights into Britain because their presence in the country is ‘not conducive to the public good’. As a result the woman was unable for three years to return from Pakistan after traveling to the county to visit family.

The tampering went undetected until the immigration officer was selected for promotion and his wife name was found on the suspects’ list during a vetting inquiry. The Home Office confirmed today that the officer has been sacked for gross misconduct.

The incident is likely to raise new questions over levels of efficiency in the UK Border Agency, the organization formed nearly three years ago by then Home Secretary Jacqui Smith to take over all immigration controls.

Can’t this asshole just file for divorce if he’s that unhappy with his wife? I consider this a convoluted form of domestic violence (exerting control, isolating her from her home & thus friends and family, etc.)

Why don’t you just cut to the chase and call it a form of rape?
      Domestic violence? Seriously???
It would be accurate to not only call what he did a serious abuse of authority, but also defamation of his wife’s character. But domestic violence? Gimme a break.

How long until we reinvent the wheel and finally grasp the age old lesson that when you give enormous power over peoples lives to petty officials, shield them from scrutiny and consequences, and generally entrust security to a system that has few checks on its own power…that people, being the weakest link, will always abuse that power at the first opportunity…and further, that the kind of person inclined to grossly abuse power…is EXACTLY the person who will seek it out…and consequently needs the greatest level of scrutiny and checks upon his/her actions.

We bitch about molester priests, junk fondling airport security, rapist prison guards getting women pregnant and bribe-taking politicians…but we’re griping about a symptom…not acknowledging the disease itself. It’s built into the human system…and we can’t afford to be so damned naive anymore. We’ve entered the 21st century…can we at least by now admit that almost everyone is corruptible and just start dealing with the situation from there? Because playing make believe and insisting that the people who seek authority over others are all perfect little angels unless there’s ironclad photographic evidence otherwise…it just isn’t working well…and hasn’t been for about 10,000 years. You’d think that would be long enough for a clue to sink in down to the DNA level…but evidently not.

That’s pretty crafty…. all it takes is a press of a button if she wanted to really come home she would have gone to the embassy or consulate. Remember that 7 year old girl here that was on “The List”

They wouldn’t even tell her why she wasn’t allowed back in Britain when she tried to return! This means “authority” can do anything it damn well pleases without even a follow-up as to why it was done in the first place. This is really scary stuff and makes me wonder how many other times it’s happened since it wasn’t until this A-Hole was ironically up for promotion that it was discovered.

This reminds of the Canadian woman who called police and told them her ex-boyfriend was on a flight to Pakistan carrying explosives. Of course there wasn’t any truth to it. Just mad she got dumped

And yet, she’s probably still on the list. Because, you know, the list is still always correct.
