CNN Sending Eight Times More Staff To Prince William’s Wedding Than To Japan

largeAh, cable news. 2011 has brought a wealth of incredible, transformative, and tragic events around the globe, but the mainstream media will have to hold off on covering that until after royal wedding season. The Atlantic Wire notes the figure, mentioned in passing in a Wall Street Journal story:

This crazy statistic comes from the Wall Street Journal’s Amy Chozick and Cecile Rohwedder, who discovered, as proof of the media madness that will be Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding, “CNN alone will have a team of roughly 400 reporters, cameramen and crew assigned to the wedding.” To compare: A group of just 50 CNN employees, one-eighth the size of the anticipated wedding fleet, are currently on the ground in Japan covering the aftermath of the earthquake and the continuing nuclear containment problem.

CNN isn’t the only network with such disproportionately big plans for the royal wedding. On the day of the earthquake, Technolayer reported that NBC News sent four anchors and correspondents to join the staff at its Tokyo Bureau. The same day, the Associated Press wrote that NBC was planning to send “an army of people–in the hundreds” to cover William and Kate’s nuptuals. ABC’s senior vice president wouldn’t confirm to the AP how much manpower it would have in London on the wedding day, but did say “it’s a major event that takes resources and people.” ABC sent three anchors and corespondents to Japan the day of the earthquake.

And remember this when PBS/NPR go off the air, and there is no intelligent journalism in the united states. Thanks, teabaggers.

Oh but he’s so handsome and she’s so pretty …. oh my heart just flutters when I see those two lovebirds together. No wonder there’s more at the wedding, all those dead or very plain looking upset Japanese people. I know real drama when I see it. R O Y A L T Y.

So sad that someone having passed through a particular crotch still merits any sort of consideration. If the British royals had any real class, they’d end this charade themselves.

Just another load of emotional bull. Why do people do this. It astounds me How much misery can you report on. Misery is misery no mater how many people you use to find it. On the other hand to get the best out of the Royle wedding; one would need a large crew to make sure they are in the right place at the right time. Any logical person would know this. So it is disproportionate is it…

Good thing Prince William wasn’t caught in a tsunami or exposed to radiation- the media would treat Japan like they treated the Sudan before people realized they were being butchered.

Pomp and ceremony have always trumped humanity and practicality.

….alas the emperor still is still a naked fetid pig to those that have eyes to see.
