Deadly Cobra Escapes Bronx Zoo

2962457883_9b5ccdb02fA poisonous Egyptian cobra slipped out of its cage this weekend, the New York Daily News reports. By this time, it may have caught a downtown 6 train to Greenwich Village or elsewhere, possibly taking the connecting ferry to Staten Island.

A 20-inch cobra slithered out of its cage in the Bronx Zoo Saturday, forcing the exhibit to close while workers searched for the venomous serpent, officials said.

The adolescent Egyptian cobra went missing from an off-exhibit enclosure sometime in the afternoon and zookeepers quickly closed off the Reptile House, officials said.

Workers canvassed the building, eying several closed-in spaces that the reptile would naturally be drawn to coil inside, officials said.

The snake – native to Africa and the Arabian Peninsula – was not recovered Saturday night, officials said.

Its too cold outside in New York for a Cobra to survive. The snake is holed up somewhere warm and secluded waiting for a rat to go by. There is plenty of food in NY.

People don’t realize just how often animals escape from zoos and circuses and such. Or how long they stay missing (if ever found at all). It’s like they don’t WANT to live in captivity or something! Imagine that!

It can also be very dangerous, like the baboons that escaped and were missing for about 3 months and made it all the way to Ohio. Oh, and they just happened to be infected with a strain of Herpes that’s deadly to humans.

These are the things they don’t want us to know about. They don’t want us to know that animals escape their captors all the time because they do not like living in cages. They don’t want us to know how dangerous they can be to public health. They just want us to keep coming and paying $60 a ticket to see the cute pandas.

Maybe one day people will learn that wild animals should not live anywhere but the wild. Then, if you want to see them, you can do it on THEIR terms. ;)

      Cute Panda?

You mean the things that are literally trying to go extinct, but a few self righteous animal rights fanatics insist we should preserve?

Animal rights fanatics? Did you buy that phrase directly from the marketing firms the Right paid to coin it, or are you quoting it on loan? You aren’t pirating it, are you? You ought to know better! Such contextual fictions cost a pretty penny on the open market and you should keep your grubby, posting hands off of ‘em.

No, but really. I’m sure animal rights fanatics are the problem. Not our abusive and self-destructive relationship with EVERYTHING IN THE PHYSICAL UNIVERSE.

Thanks for keeping the FOX journalistic standards alive and well at disinfo, Bud. It takes a wide angle perspective like yours to see the true majesty of it all.

Well, I’m all for animal rights as well, but consider this: tigers going extinct is a tragedy. Humans are the cause, and because of us a graceful and beautiful animal may go extinct before our eyes. Pandas won’t fuck to save their species in the wild, if they go extinct that isn’t our fault.

      • GoodDoktorBad

There are no animals that are trying to go extinct, fool – although if you are any indication -it could be argued that HUMANS are trying to go extinct and take the rest of nature with it.

Uh-oh. As with the Killer Bees before him, he’s an AFRICAN SNAKE. Alert the Wasp Queens and Jewish Princesses: Mandingo Cobra on the loose.
Check out the coverage of this story in mainstream news outlets. This kind of story has a tendency to become racialized, or at least orientalized… Let’s see how this one plays out.
