  She’s being relatively racist when she does the “ching-chong” imitation. That one has passed beyond simple imitation or parody and takes it’s place with grinning Negros and napping Mexicans. Her disdain for “old Asians” is pretty evident as well. Essentially she is accepting of foreigners provided they abandon their traditions and family structures as soon as possible in order to better occupy 21st century urban American constellations like atomized single living or teenagerhood.

How can one judge all people in a category, here being Americans, without having met every single one or even a majority, Hell even a few hundred, to make a semi-accurate assessment. Or maybe a drunk Russian who doesn’t even remember typing this? All of those are extremely stupid and untrue stereotypes perpetuated by modern media, hate, misguided nationalism and, above all, ignorance. Please, help me help you stop the stereotype YOU are now forming of how non-Americans can’t think for themselves and just go along with what’s fashionable at the time because they’re too insecure to have independent thoughts by thinking for yourself for once in your life and reserving judgement for what you KNOW, not what you assume. We have a saying ’round my parts, when youi assume you make an ASS out of U and ME (ASS-U-ME… get it?         “Ugly American” is a phrase with a specific meaning. It does NOT apply to all Americans. I AM an American.
        “Ugly American” came into currency to describe a sort of nationalistic attitude in combination with an arrogant sense of entitlement and a tendency to generalize American norms and apply them universally. It usually pops up when describing racist or prejudicial Americans’ interactions with other cultures. Y’know, the old “Your wouldn’t be starving if your food didn’t smell so bad… You should spend less on baubles if you don’t want to be poor… If you don’t want to drown in a tsunami why don’t you just move? Dallas is nice this time of year…” I didn’t invent the phrase. It’s been around for decades and it certainly isn’t aimed at all Americans. I looked it up to doublecheck myself before writing this and it even has a Wikipedia entry.
        
        The “facelift” comment was over the top, admittedly. I used to rap and I was going for turn of phrase using a pre-existing idiom. That brings us to my next question, though.
        
        I can certainly see you being upset by someone labeling all Americans. I’m assuming that your response was motivated by this idea and that you are unfamiliar with the phrase “Ugly Americans”. It reads that way to me. It may be the phrase has fallen out of currency and I shouldn’t have used it. I learned this phrase when my mom explained it to me in the 80′s. Perhaps it was dwindling even then…
        
        HOWEVER, another possibility occurs to me, one that I think you should probably take note of… Is it at all possible that you just stuck it to me for my ignorance of American culture when you, in fact, are operating from a position of cultural illiteracy? I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps the phrase is a fossil. But I’m willing to bet a not insignificant number of people knew what I was talking about.

      You don’t like big words and compelling arguments? I’m sorry. There are plenty of websites out there for you. Using articulate sentences is exactly what makes an argument more valid. That is the point of arguing. It doesn’t necessarily make an opinion more valid, but arguing IS, in fact, the art of lending credence and validity to one’s opinion through persuasive and well-considered speech. Anything less simply the product of a bare-minimum education.
      
      There is a common, but thoroughly inane tendency to accuse anyone who takes a strong position against anything of prejudice. For instance: I hate racism. Therefore, according to some, I am racist against racists. The assumption here is that everything should be tolerated equally, even intolerance.       This brings us to hatefulness. Yes, I am being hateful. I don’t feel compelled to love my enemy as a social responsibility. Perhaps it is wise to do so in some larger spiritual sense, but in the more limited and immediate world of power and culture, I think it is quite important to hate my enemy. In this watered down democracy full of insubstantial factions it is altogether too easy to forget about those who profit from the suffering and disenfranchisement of others. In fact, their power is largely derived from their invisibility. This is not the invisibility of shadowy manipulation, rather it is the invisibility of the everyday, the banal, the omnipresent. “Western” cultures have been exploiting and dehumanizing others for 500 years as a means to power and, despite the inroads made by various civil rights movements, they show no signs of stopping.
      The political consciousness I inhabit identifies these cultures as Babylon, as the worshippers of Mammon, the followers of the Pharaoh. Me and mine seek to resist them at least and destroy them at best. Our existence as free peoples is forever imperiled in the shadows of pyramids.

  Yes, PEOPLE (in general) are annoying when they are on their cell phones and in a place like a library. I’ve experienced several cell phone talkers in my university’s library, believe me, it’s not just limited to the Asian population. Generalized negative behavior to one population shows how much she has to learn and how unwilling she is to look at things from a more objective view.

When you really want to get some studying done you go to the library to avoid all the noise from living in your dorm. That is the point of arguing. There is a common, but thoroughly inane tendency to accuse anyone who takes a strong position against anything of prejudice. For instance: I hate racism. Therefore, according to some, I am racist against racists. The assumption here is that everything should be tolerated equally, even intolerance. This is completely possible in a world such as that we see depicted in the media. In such a world all perspectives are on equal footing because all perspectives are equally devoid of substance. In a world in which ideas have real effects and consequences one must actually arm one’s spirit and take a stand for and against things.

This brings us to hatefulness. Yes, I am being hateful. I don’t feel compelled to love my enemy as a social responsibility. Perhaps it is wise to do so in some larger spiritual sense, but in the more limited and immediate world of power and culture, I think it is quite important to hate my enemy. In this watered down democracy full of insubstantial factions it is altogether too easy to forget about those who profit from the suffering and disenfranchisement of others. In fact, their power is largely derived from their invisibility. This is not the invisibility of shadowy manipulation, rather it is the invisibility of the everyday, the banal, the omnipresent. “Western” cultures have been exploiting and dehumanizing others for 500 years as a means to power and, despite the inroads made by various civil rights movements, they show no signs of stopping.
The political consciousness I inhabit identifies these cultures as Babylon, as the worshippers of Mammon, the followers of the Pharaoh. Me and mine seek to resist them at least and destroy them at best. Our existence as free peoples is forever imperiled in the shadows of pyramids.

“Ugly American” is a phrase with a specific meaning. It does NOT apply to all Americans. I AM an American.
“Ugly American” came into currency to describe a sort of nationalistic attitude in combination with an arrogant sense of entitlement and a tendency to generalize American norms and apply them universally. It usually pops up when describing racist or prejudicial Americans’ interactions with other cultures. Y’know, the old “Your wouldn’t be starving if your food didn’t smell so bad… You should spend less on baubles if you don’t want to be poor… If you don’t want to drown in a tsunami why don’t you just move? Dallas is nice this time of year…” I didn’t invent the phrase. It’s been around for decades and it certainly isn’t aimed at all Americans. I looked it up to doublecheck myself before writing this and it even has a Wikipedia entry.

The “facelift” comment was over the top, admittedly. I used to rap and I was going for turn of phrase using a pre-existing idiom. That brings us to my next question, though.

I can certainly see you being upset by someone labeling all Americans. I’m assuming that your response was motivated by this idea and that you are unfamiliar with the phrase “Ugly Americans”. It reads that way to me. It may be the phrase has fallen out of currency and I shouldn’t have used it. I learned this phrase when my mom explained it to me in the 80′s. Perhaps it was dwindling even then…

HOWEVER, another possibility occurs to me, one that I think you should probably take note of… Is it at all possible that you just stuck it to me for my ignorance of American culture when you, in fact, are operating from a position of cultural illiteracy? I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps the phrase is a fossil. But I’m willing to bet a not insignificant number of people knew what I was talking about.
