U.S. Soldiers in Afghanistan Posed in ‘Trophy’ Photos With Murdered Civilians

US Soldier Poses With Dead BodyJon Boone writes in the Guardian:

The face of Jeremy Morlock, a young US soldier, grins at the camera, his hand holding up the head of the dead and bloodied youth he and his colleagues have just killed in an act military prosecutors say was premeditated murder.

Moments before the picture was taken in January last year, the unsuspecting victim had been waved over by a group of US soldiers who had driven to his village in Kandahar province in one of their armoured Stryker tanks.

According to testimony collected by Der Spiegel magazine the boy had, as a matter of routine, lifted up his shirt to reveal that he was not hiding a suicide bomb vest.

That was the moment Morlock, according to a pre-arranged plan, threw a grenade at the boy that exploded while other members of the rogue group who called themselves the “kill team” opened fire.

They would later tell military investigators that the boy, a farmer’s son, had threatened them with the grenade.

Not all American’s believe this is right. This is the Military Industrial Complex. Propaganda that teaches Neo Christian Patriotism is the support of your government as well as mine. It’s called Capitalism. 1.) America is not free. It is not a Republic or a Democracy. America is an Oligarchy. 2.) So called “Christians” have no place serving in the armed forces, Jesus taught it is more important to love than be right. Anyone who volunteers for Military service and calls themselves a Christian is a hypocrite. 3.) Not all soldiers come back from this want to be cops. We all come home angry. (From 8 years of Military Experience.) None of us love our Government. 4.) The rest of you are to scared to do anything about it.

if not all americans believe it is right why is it still tolerated?
The people of america put the current government into power and are doing NOTHING to stop these atrocities.
saying “I dont agree with that” is not enough. The world has every right to feel hate and anger towards americans of every colour and creed regardless of thir individual stand point until acts such as these are brought to an end. If you are american it is your personal responsibility to put a stop to this and so many other attrocities associated with your government and corporate infastructure. To say that you dont agree is no excuse. Action against the people and organisations that perpetuate this behaviour is the only solution. Anything less will continue to put your name on the same list as the vile and incomprehensible people in this article. I applaud the people of nation states such as lybia who are willing to put their lives on the line to end this type of tyrany. America is an abomination and articles such as this are proof.

      • dirtyjohnny

I’m sorry, but I’m having a hard time swallowing this.
I’m American by birth. I vote in every election. I often find myself voting “strategically” rather than by conscience, i.e.: voting for democrats rather than for greens or socialists when they have no chance at victory. I have pursued mainstream avenues such as protesting and organizing as well as other less legal avenues which we cannot discuss here. I will gladly burn the flag of my nation. I am proud to be from the culture I was born into, but I will salute no nation-state. I certainly wish for a magic bullet, but to date, all I have found is a tireless struggle against a expanding legion.
The stance and disposition you are taking is one of self-righteousness and, very likely, one of hypocrisy. If you use gasoline or plastic you have no room to speak. If you don’t PERSONALLY OVERTHROW YOUR GOVERNMENT for crimes against aborigines you have no room to speak. If you don’t hunt down the hooligans murdering Indians and Asians you have no room to speak.
You sound like a very young individual, most likely male. That is the age and gender who can afford this sort of unblemished purism. For most of the world it is more difficult. I am not trying to rationalize the actions of my nation. I am not here to offer excuses, but rather to ask YOU how YOU live up to YOUR standards. And how could you, really?
This species of Critique of America is one I here coming from Europe and Australia quite often. It would be one thing coming from Venezuela or Nigeria, but it reeks of self-satisfaction wafting from the direction of our military and trade partners. You talk revolution and live modified capitalism. These nations affect innocence and purity while reaping the benefits of imperialism with their everyday purchase choices. They are quick to point out America’s hideous warmongering, but remain painfully slow in rectifying there own centuries-long war against people tanner than themselves. In essence, they sit in the back seat of gas-guzzling Detroit steel imploring the driver to pump the breaks a little harder. It would be very different if they were another species of state and society, but it is simply not so. They are shrill. They are envious. They are just unsuccessful Americas.
Point me to the real uprising when you find it. You’ll be able to recognize it by it’s lack of posturing and self-righteousness.

Back in 1999 I was working for a very small construction team that did Finish work on new homes and remodels. Both the owner and the head foreman were Marines who had done multiple tours in Afghanistan during Desert Storm. Both were snipers. I was out after work having a beer with the owner one night when he started talking about his time in Desert Storm. He said that he used to have pictures of his fellow marines posing for photos on dead enemy bodies like they were surfing. He said he also had one that had two marines standing side by side while they held the third head in between them in a twisted version of hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil. He said he had nightmares about the incidents after coming back to the states until he finally burned the pictures. I ended up moving not long after and was told that my former boss had gone down to his basement about two months after I moved and he shot himself in the head, leaving behind his wife and two young children.

My only point is that this type of thing has been happening for much longer than just since Abu Graib or any recent wars. I am in no way defending the horrific acts of these soldiers but what do you expect when we send very young, men and women, who often come from dysfunctional backgrounds, half way across the world with heavy weaponry and then keep them in a state of fight or flight for months or years at a time?

I do not know any weapon-wielding U.S. soldiers that are not like this. Can you give me an example of one in active duty (Bradley Manning, bless his soul, does not count as he’s still imprison for blowing the whistle on many war crimes) who isn’t like a hunter? What does this U.S. soldier and hunters share in common? Two, easily off the bat: one, disinformation lies (the hunter says killing “captive, bred animals” is “population control”, while the soldier says that killing innocent civilians is ok because “its part of the cost of war”, “it’s part of our job”, “we were ordered to”, and even, “they had it coming to them”), and two, trophy photos.

As sad as it is, even if this news article would make it to the major media outlets, I can predict that this soldiers punishment will be practically nothing, he will probably be cast with a mental illness and then excused for his crimes. All you have to do is take a look at all the corrupt cops today (stopthedrugwar.org) and you will see their punishment is nothing compared to the punishment given if it were a civilian. Our country is hopeless, maybe even our world. I am starting to think that nothing is going to work other than a violent revolution. These ass clowns need to realize that we can snap and destroy their little empire whenever we want, then and only then will we get any kind of respect.

Well trained troops don’t usually go out and take the initiative to commit war crimes. They wait for orders. Undisciplined poorly trained troops are no better than militia/paramilitary. These are shit tier army troops. For example, it would be highly unlikely that Rangers would do this.

If you think that average Americans can bring about change through our votes, you need to realize that is most definitely not the case. That much should be apparent by now.

I take it you aren’t an NATIVE Australian…

What’s the difference between America’s voting system and American Idol? On American Idol they actually count your votes. Ok everyone time to come to reality, we are no longer a Democracy you have been duped. They tell you if you don’t like it change your votes, so you do, then nothing changes….why? Because our voting system is setup to keep you powerless, they don’t count. No war is justified no death is righteous, and all men will pay for the evils of the very few. Are you truly more pure for not commiting these atrocities yourself? Or are you just as much to blame, for doing nothing about them? Heaven was built for Lions not Lambs.

Hey. Just because a few american soldiers killed one kid doesn’t mean that the whole country sucks. For all you know, the kid could kill a thousand soldiers if he wanted to. Hell, he could’ve even been the next Hitler. They might have been making the right call.

  • Suscribay

Just because the kid wasn’t armed at that time doesn’t mean that he was our friend. For all you know, he would fight for the Taliban in later years. That kid had the potential to kill a thousand soldiers if he wanted to.

That kid that was killed might have killed a thousand troops. He may have even been the next Hitler. Don’t accuse the soldiers for what may or may not have been the right thing to do.
