Egypt’s Zahi Hawass Gets Jail Term

The soap opera saga of History Channel’s swashbuckling Egyptologist continues. Dr. Hawass appeared to have survived the ouster of Hosni Mubarak, but now finds himself sentenced to a year in jail. He’s appealing of course, but it seems that the controversial Egyptian is on the ropes. Alan Shahine reports for Bloomberg:

Zahi Hawass, Egypt’s minister of state for antiquities, said he will appeal a one-year jail sentence imposed on him yesterday.

The sentence is related to a lawsuit accusing him of refusing to carry out a court ruling, the state-run Middle East News Agency said today. The court had ordered a halt to bidding from companies to run a bookstore in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, Hawass said today in his blog.

“Tomorrow, the head of the legal affairs department at the Ministry of Antiquities will go to the court to file our appeal,” Hawass said in the Web log. “He will present evidence that the bid for the bookstore contract was finished before the original court ruling, so therefore we could not follow the ruling to stop the bidding.”…

Hawass is a hero. By continually misleading the public about the true nature of the pyramids, he has kept the truth from the unworthy. Imagine what a thug like mubarak would have done with free energy and death rays. Haters need to keep this in perspective.

Ask Graham Hancock or some of the earlier archeologists who knew Hawass before he began to work for the Egyptian Antiquities Department. They’ll let you know what kind of double-dealer he really is and how he got his position. Tear the fences down and let legitimate archeologists in to do their thing, and we will have the Hall of Records open to the public; as well – we might get a glimpse of just how long ago the pyramids were built. This guy is hiding something… like a long lost civilization whose history would help us understand a lot.
