Ellen Page Talks Vanishing Bees With Bill Maher (Video)

At last month’s SXSW film festival in Austin one of the highlights was Ellen Page’s superb performance in the new comics superhero indie movie Super. Not stopping for a moment to bask in the stellar reviews, Page is now promoting the documentary Vanishing of the Bees and went on Bill Maher’s HBO show last week to alert people to the serious problems that Colony Collapse Disorder creates for our food supply:

Oh, how America drools over hot chicks with no talent!

    • BlackDown

if she isn’t talented, who is?

      • Himmel22

Regardless of the level of talent this young lady I have never heard of has, or has not, what she is saying is valid and impassioned. We could use more of it, especially if she is part of the mainstream pop-culture. @Jenny, great timing to bash Americans??? You watched that video, almost eight minutes in length, and that was the comment that lept to mind. We are all impressed and challenged by you enlightened opnions.

Ellen page is an intelligent woman. I couldn’t see why people despise her?

          • Validemail

Because she is an intelligent woman?

    • Bud Bundy

X-Men 3 may have sucked, but she beat the Juggernaught, Bitch!

Juno was great. Seriously, I think she’s a great young actress. I don’t know who I’m calling young though, since I’m only 26.

Actually, the funniest part about that entire episode was the shear fact that relative to the entire panel of supposedly well-informed, beltway insiders, politicians, and media moguls who are her elders, she was the smartest person there.

    Seriously. It was no contest.

To see this little 5’1″ woman (she’s my height) just walk on to the panel and just CRUSH them all into silence by merely being PREPARED. And I mean more prepared than Maher. She didn’t need notes, she simple KNEW HER SHIT.

She didn’t just do some voice-over for the narration on this movie either. Right after “Juno” came out, and before she went to work on the Drew Barrymore “Whip It” project, rather than sticking around in Hollywood and letting them do what they do best with a new hot property (namely go completely apeshit over someone until they become a charicature of themselves), she bugged out and went up to a commune in Oregon and literally got her hands dirty learning about perma-culture farming, and how societies could live in cooperation with, rather than conflict with the Earth.

So when she came on the panel, she really had internalized all that knowledge, and it was truly lovely to behold – if only for the CONTRAST she presented to a douchebag like that rightwing hack David Brooks of the New York Times.

Maher’s best line in regards to her was that she was the “anti-Kardashian”.

It’s nice to see someone that’s famous actually show some substance, heart and intelligence. Fame is usually so much fluff. Ellen seems to be an exception. Rock on…
