Episodes Of ‘The Simpsons’ To Be Edited Following Japanese Nuclear Crisis

Simpsons Radioactive?Via Entertainment Weekly:

Japan’s nuclear power plant crisis is no laughing matter in Springfield: Networks in several European countries are reportedly reviewing episodes of “The Simpsons” for any “unsuitable” references to nuclear disaster.

An Austrian network has apparently pulled two eps, 1992′s “Marge Gets a Job” and 2005′s “On a Clear Day I Can’t See My Sister,” which include jokes about radiation poisoning and nuclear meltdowns, respectively.

Al Jean — exec producer of the animated Fox comedy featuring inept family man/nuclear power plant worker Homer Simpson — tells EW that he can appreciate the concern.

“We have 480 episodes, and if there are a few that they don’t want to air for awhile in light of the terrible thing going on, I completely understand that,” says Jean, citing the previous example of the 1997 episode “Homer Versus the City of New York” that was pulled after 9/11 because it included key scenes at the World Trade Center. “We would never make light of what’s happening in Japan.”

While you’re at it, why don’t you just stop reporting on it? Or acknowledging that Japan even exists? Are we so concerned about offending someone what we’re willing to ignore entire works of art over it?

    Fuck you.

These Simpsons episodes aren’t commenting on Japan; they were made over a decade ago. They’re commenting on the human condition, and if you can’t take it, drop fucking dead.

No, seriously. Fuck you. Go cry in a corner while the rest of humanity actually makes a goddamn difference.

    • Ewk!

And while you’re at it why don’t you grow up and get some fucking manners. Asshole..

Perspective change. Horse manure for the weak minded.

So this is supposedly potentially offensive to the Japanese, I see, most interesting.
Ridiculing massacres, making light of torture, offending peoples of varying faiths, drunk abusive households, tsunamis and or other catastrophies, mental illness etc, etc.

These however are all apparantly acceptable, comical, all good fun.
Well start down this foolish path and you may end up with fifty frames of the Simpsons at most.

What a load of horse manure.
I believe the peoples of Japan are above this nonsense. In fact the censorship would more than likely
    insult their intelligence.

My deepest sympathies to the peoples of Japan. A continuing calamity that reaches and will reach much
further than the editors interest at your local MSM.

What I find humorous is that it isn’t Japan that’s censoring these episodes, it’s Europe. Europe has become skittish about nuclear humor, not the country that is actually grappling with a nuclear crisis.

Exactly….reminds me of what I have noticed about people’s attitude towards handicapped people. Often if anyone cracks a joke about a handicapped person then the first person to get offended is someone who has no handicapped problems whatsoever. Of course there is such a thing as taking something to far, but by and far, most handicapped individuals don’t mind such jokes if they are done in good fun and not meant to be hurtful, and they often tell them themselves. I think they feel that being treated as if you are somehow “different” and “untouchable” by being overly protective of their feelings, is what actually makes them feel ashamed. Getting a good natured jab from a buddy about being stuck in a wheel chair actually makes them feel more accepted, and an equal….since “normal” people crack fun of each other all the time. I know its not an exact comparison between the Handicapped and a Nuclear Disaster, yet I imagine that it is somewhat applicable to this situation.

Its funny. This is like old movies being edited for having the Twin Towers in them. It even extends to Metal Gear Solid 2 being criticized and delayed because a Video Game dared to feature the WTC (in one scene) and a plot involving terrorists. Despite the games story being written long before 9/11. Despite the game having to do with your Government not having your best interests at heart… oh wait.

    Oh crap.

Even Homer Simpson new American, circa 1950′s slide-rule, inch, pound, gallon, designed, uranium fueled, plutonium producing, high pressure, ‘tea-pot’ styled reactors were not safe! For safer, saner designs see Tsinghua University, China, pebble bed gas reactors – up and running as we speak. China invests, as we speak, Billions of Yuan, not in trouncing Iraq for cheaper gasoline that never materialized, but for clean, safe, cheap to operate, plutonium free, thorium fueled, computer developed, metric precise, reactor designs, new designs, designs that epoch American designs. In the next decades China with the energy from these improved reactors will dominate all Asia, not a shot fired, better way of life offered – a new concept for waring Americans who can only see as far as WWII battlefield conquests. Goddammit! Are they smarter than us? Play by different rules?
