Just when you thought that drinking a few glasses of red wine every day was going to prolong your life comes this report in the British Medical Journal that it raises the risk of cancer. From AFP:

About one in 10 cancers in men and one in 33 in women in western European countries are caused by current and past alcohol consumption, according to a study released on Friday.

For some types of cancer, the rates are significantly higher, it said.

In 2008, for men, 44, 25 and 33 percent of upper digestive track, liver and colon cancers respectively were caused by alcohol in six of the countries examined, the study found.

The countries were Britain, Italy, Spain, Greece, Germany and Denmark.

The study also showed that half of these cancer cases occurred in men who drank more than a recommended daily limit of 24 grammes of alcohol, roughly two small glasses of wine or a pint of beer.

The cancer rates for women in the same countries, along with the Netherlands and France, was 18 percent for throat, mouth and stomach, 17 percent for liver, five percent for breast and four percent for colon cancer.

Four-fifths of these cases were due to daily consumption above recommended limits, set for women at half the level of men…

as if they know what causes cancer. death is a spiritual thing, when its time to go its time to go. some people flirt with it for entertainment. Boredom or constant unwanted stress causes cancer and many many other things. Loneliness can also start the death process in some.

What’s interesting here is it’s talking about cancer and you skipped to death… as if that’s easier to rationalize in your mind than thinking about your own drinking habits. There’s probably also no brand of fear that would make a real alcoholic think about his drinking. Unfortunately, education doesn’t you [read:everybody] of denial.

I will say this though, just because correlation does not equal causation does not mean that a correlation denies a causation. For example: there is a correlation between people who pound out a bottle of whiskey then drive, and car crashes.

“Just when you thought that drinking a few glasses of red wine every day was going to prolong your life….”

I have never heard that. I’ve heard that one glass a day is healthy. It’s always a good sign when an article begins with a straw man….

Ahhhh, some new paranoid fear to twist up your mind and body into creating a nice tumor. Obsessed with the fear of death -we cannot live. We are our own self -fullfilling phrophets. There are no rational fears, other than the natural physical alarms that are there to protect our bodies from harm. This is what some refer to as “survival mode” -when the mind steps aside in favor of the”fight or flight” response. Alot of people are locked into this paranoid, adrenaline laced mode. It has become the norm for a large majority of folks. These are also the folks more likely to get cancer or some other malady taylored to their “Chicken Little” way of looking at life……

This just in, Living to long may kill you. New studies report that living to long will eventually kill you. Top scientists now believe that birth is the cause of all human problems. To be absolutely safe, scientists are now encouraging people to avoid being born, if possible. For those alive now, do not be alarmed, cutting edge lab research has proven that reading causes quantum cancer and you could disappear at anytime. Philosophers argue that this is just a correlation, but Doctors are arguing that people are disappearing, regardless of the mental confusion.

Here is a free health tip for you people. Drinking alcohol is not benefical to your health. It is the anti-oxidant that is found in red grapes called revestrol.

    • Drinky McGee

Way to suck all the soul and romance out of life. “Hey, baby, what say you and me go out for some broccoli and revestrol?”
