This reminds me of the last time a US president was here in Brazil, i coundt understand the distrust of de americans against its own gov until they start forbiding our own people and our own gov to do stuff in our own country. Now i know better.

Interesting. Because of the trivial nature of the block party…and the clearly oversized response that far exceeded any real need…I’m going to guess that the annual block party was selected as a perfect crowd control test project…not because it was genuinely out of hand, but because it provided an ideal sample situation to execute a drill on crowd control and dispersion techniques. Real life opportunities to deploy that equipment are few and far between, and the justification for its presence is thin at the best of times. The block party seems like a predictable ‘safe’ place for a full scale real life test of the gear and personnel and procedures…at the expense of a bunch of drunk kids who were just partying.

What’s more relevant is this: do the police expect that a test of their equipment and procedures is urgently needed? and why? Are they expecting or anticipating that the new policies emerging in the midwestern states might enrage so many people that protests on the scale of those in Wisconsin may become common? In all likelihood, these tactics will be turned against anyone who gathers inconveniently in the foreseeable future, whether their cause is political or otherwise.
