Man Robs Bank Of $1 To Get Health Care In Jail

man-robs-bank-to-get-health-care-in-jail-19261-1308606497-2This is so sad. Amazingly, many people’s reaction to the story is outrage…that our prisoners receive medical treatment. ABC News reports:

A 59-year-old man has been jailed in Gastonia, N.C., on charges of larceny after allegedly robbing an RBC Bank for $1 so he could get health care in prison. Richard James Verone handed a female teller a note demanding the money and claiming that he had a gun, according to the police report.

He then sat down and waited for police to arrive. “… I say, ‘I’ll be sitting right over here, on the chair, waiting for the police,'” Verone told reporters, recalling the June 9 robbery in an interview from Gaston County Jail.

Verone said he asked for $1 to show that his motives were medical, not monetary, according to news reports. With a growth in his chest, two ruptured disks and no job, Verone hoped a three-year stint in prison would afford him the health care he needed.

LOL it’s a foxnews troll. since when did universal health care become a communist tenet? and if it is, commies 1 – US 0.

      • Markov Cheney | Jun 21, 2011 at 3:31 pm |

Once again, a disinfo reader has a faulty joke-reading-apparatus

      • Yeah, all the commie countries have communist health care. For example: Austria, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada,
Chile, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France,
Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan,
Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Oman, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Ukraine and the United
        Kingdom.
And due to your soft sensibilities I left out the truly socialist countries that provide universal care like Cuba, Argentina, etc. Don’t want you to rupture a blood vessel…

        • Portugal a communist country? You are a smart guy…

        • you’re an absolute idiot. literally none other than cuba are communist, and the UK communist? really? where are you getting your information. the NHS in the UK is far superior and efficient program that saves the lives of all, not those who can afford it. but as the US and fools like you think youre the centre of the world, everyone else must be communist or Nazis right? ignorant idiot.

          • axel ur correct far to many here think that but have hope the first nation people r gaining strength and will lead to a new way of thinking

    • Yeah, sure, unfortunately I’ve seen too many who can’t work to afford thier health care simply get sicker waiting for the government to help them. That’s the job of the government to support the needs of everyone, not just those with the money.

I was not even talking about propaganda and not defending the state. I was saying that its wrong for people not to want health care in prison,we need to be humane because in reality we are all one and it could happen to anyone. You are misunderstanding and acting like a know it all, trying to offend me when i am posting something positive. I’ve actually have been next to people that have gone to prison and some have come out better people and benefited from the system, they learned skills and gotten a degree while doing hard time, made lemonade out of lemons. If i am an expert or not its none of your business. Don’t try to undermine me for no reason, go troll someone else. You didn’t even write anything of substance or elaborate on the article, just truly wasting my time. You are just attacking me personally. Do you want something? or just trying to show everyone that you know it all? a prison without bars does not only happen in an office. Don’t bother posting on this one I wont answer again you can just write to try to get likes and feel like you have internet fans. And by the way, being registered and having your activity tracked leaves you very vulnerable to trolling, but I’m sure you knew that being super smart and all and being so great at avoiding office work. congrats to you sir you’ve made it to the top!!!

          • E.B. Wolf | Jun 23, 2011 at 1:35 am |

I did have a reason. How did you arrive at the conclusion that the prison system was about correction and rehabilitation?

You decided to respond with snark yourself. If you had made some of the points in this response initially rather than, “Am I supposed to teach you something?” “Since you started showing improvement in your prison without bars you call [an] office.” etc; there just might have been some worthwhile discussion to be had. But it seems your skin was too thin for that. If you can’t take it; don’t dish it.

          •  It is SUPPOSED to be about correction and rehabilitation, always has.

          • the alternative is mass executions of nonviolent offenders and i dont know about u but thats even worse if the prisons and schools and parents did their jobs this wouldnt even be in issue fact is there are more inmates in prison now then when i was a kid in the 70’s and 80’s because as a country we have gone totally ass backwards the people with the money dont pay their fair share and leave the ones at the lower levels to carry the load

given the absurdity for which our prisons are filled up… I’d question your characterization of what is *really* absurd.

Is it absurd to stick a pot dealer in with a serial killer? Absurd to put a person in prison for life because they stole a piece of Pizza? Absurd to blindly allow a death penalty and use it on clearly retarded people? I question your absurd world where a human doesn’t deserve healthcare because they may or may not have done a particular action.

  71. Being a cancer patient I understand this mans actions completley, even with health insurance (which I’m raging towards my lifetime cap quickly) my medical bills are outlandish. I’m only 26 and while I had considerable savings and always living within my means money is dwindling quickly as I try to keep up on bills when I have to miss work and cover copays and deductables. It’s sad when people get so desperate they have to do this kind of thing. I have to say I’m on the fence with health care coverage in prisons (personally I think short termers upon release should have to pay it back at the least). I do believe everyone has the right to health care and the right to life sustaining treatments and comfort measures. However a girl I worked with had a boyfriend spend nearly 3 years in prison for repeated thefts and drug possesion and recieved cosmetic dental work while in prison. My teeth have always been atrocious d/t a calcium deficiency and I have learned to live with it because cosmetic dental work is just not something I can afford, glad to know fellons can though. I also dislike that they are provided free college while I have to bust my butt to pay for mine. Doesn’t matter what I think tho, just another voice in the crowd. Good luck to you Mr. Verone, may you find health, comfort and peace. <3

    • I agree with you sir, but that responsibility isn’t only of the Christians, it’s of all people regardless of beliefs. MY pagan self included.

      • thanx being first nation i am especially close to this as my tribe believes in all people receiving help its not fair that somebody works their whole life just to fight for what he earned after he cant work anymore get the man the help he needs and handle the small stuff later as for the ER statement the emergency room is more expensive then a regular visit and the reason why most people go that route is because they will see u without insurance hospitals are supposed to be for patient not for profit

  75. Yeah, sure, unfortunately I’ve seen too many who can’t work to afford thier health care simply get sicker waiting for the government to help them. That’s the job of the government to support the needs of everyone, not just those with the money.

  76. If we treat this Richard guy like he treats other are we not the same? Eye for an eye  leads to everyone being blind…

  77. I agree with you sir, but that responsibility isn’t only of the Christians, it’s of all people regardless of beliefs. MY pagan self included.

  78. thanx being first nation i am especially close to this as my tribe believes in all people receiving help its not fair that somebody works their whole life just to fight for what he earned after he cant work anymore get the man the help he needs and handle the small stuff later as for the ER statement the emergency room is more expensive then a regular visit and the reason why most people go that route is because they will see u without insurance hospitals are supposed to be for patient not for profit

  79. the alternative is mass executions of nonviolent offenders and i dont know about u but thats even worse if the prisons and schools and parents did their jobs this wouldnt even be in issue fact is there are more inmates in prison now then when i was a kid in the 70’s and 80’s because as a country we have gone totally ass backwards the people with the money dont pay their fair share and leave the ones at the lower levels to carry the load

  84. axel ur correct far to many here think that but have hope the first nation people r gaining strength and will lead to a new way of thinking
