TSA Orders 95-Year-Old Woman To Remove Adult Diaper

Enough with the madness – this is way, way too far over the line. And the TSA is not even apologizing! From CNN:

The Transportation Security Administration stood by its security officers Sunday after a Florida woman complained that her cancer-stricken, 95-year-old mother was patted down and forced to remove her adult diaper while going through security.

Reports of the incident took hold in social media, with scores of comments on the topic and reposts appearing hourly on Twitter Sunday afternoon.

The TSA released a statement Sunday defending its agents’ actions at the Northwest Florida Regional Airport. “While every person and item must be screened before entering the secure boarding area, TSA works with passengers to resolve security alarms in a respectful and sensitive manner,” the federal agency said. “We have reviewed the circumstances involving this screening and determined that our officers acted professionally and according to proper procedure.”

Jean Weber told CNN’s Fredricka Whitfield on Sunday that the security officers may have been procedurally correct, but she still does not believe they were justified, especially given her mother’s frail condition…

“Proper procedures” ? What utter rot. What’s proper about harassing a 90 y/o leukemia patient exactly? The procedures are fucking demented.

    • Exactly. There’s nothing respectful or sensitive about this. According to the video, they found something wet and firm in her diaper. Gee, I wonder what it could be..?

Why are you letting this happen people? Can you not see or feel? Are your fears so deep that you stand for nothing? The TSA is destined for a little “pat down” of its own if they keep this shit up. Sooner or later, the beatings will begin.

Well, if their reasoning is that a 95 year-old white woman is a prime recruit as a Muslamic suicide bomber that makes sense enough.  As the old joke goes, “I wouldn’t be buying any green bananas at that age, much less taking out any 30-year mortgages.”

But if that’s their criterion, wouldn’t the typical 20 year-old TSA also raise ‘nothing-to-live-for’ issues?  Fair is fair:  Full body cavity searches for all TSA employees every day upon reporting for duty.

Why are people not in the streets protesting in outrage over this?  People have protested and risked their lives in Libya, Egpyt and Yemen over oppressive governments; why are we not following their example? Get over the flouridated water and high fructose corn syrup diets and lamestream media and see how we’re all getting screwed over!

  25. If I was there with my grandma and she had an issue, we would leave. We would find another mode of transportation. As for the people talking about protesting, I’ll protest when they start searching our homes or searching us for using the sidewalk. To me, things like this show that they’re being fair on the searches. It’s messed up, but fair.

I hate to say this but if you don’t like the rules then don’t fly. I’ve managed to go 43 years with out stepping foot on an airplane. If you feel the need to keep giving airlines your money so you can go where ever it is you think you need to go then you can’t complain. Nobody put a gun to your head and told you to fly. If everyone for just one day didn’t fly then maybe it would send a bigger message than complaining to CNN that your grandma was groped.

    • so because you don’t fly, you expect everyone to feel the same way you do about it?  fact is, there was more “freedom” before to come and go out of this country and now there is not.  that is unacceptable.  i’d say if we ever “go backwards” and start taking away assumed rights to privacy that were there to begin with, that’s a pretty scary place to be… and that’s the issue.  you give an inch, they take a mile…

ha every time i go to the airport they pull me aside. literally. every time. i always felt like they were all coincidentally profiling, but last time i went i felt alittle better about it because they had a Buddhist monk in his bright orange garments pulled aside too. and now i read this. like someone else said, “To me, things like this show that they’re being fair on the searches. It’s messed up, but fair.”. you never know who’s going to blow shit up. or how. i flew out of detroit the day that one guy was flying in with his diaper explosive (just after xmas before last) that he couldn’t get working. fact is people put bombs in diapers ( even solid wet ones), its been done, why wouldn’t they now check?. don’t want your diaper searched? don’t wear one through security.    note: i do agree that overall they have gone overboard tho. with me, the monk, this old lady.  maybe what they are doing is just a sign of the times?  i know we all hate getting our diapers searched but i bet we’d hate getting blown up more often even more (and we’d probably point the same finger at the same people only on the other hand). i think they’re job is just to try to keep all of us as safe as possible. waste of news space? i think so.

    • yeah but that guy didn’t have a passport AND was escorted onto the plane.  you figure that out.  if they are going to blow up a plane, they will get through security.

    • It’s both impractical and impossible to properly search everyone, which is why they stoop to this trickery that has never done anything to stop a single bomb ever, but hey, at least it looks like they’re doing their job (i.e. the American way). Think about all the bombing attempts since 9/11 and notice how they all got through security because they don’t know what the hell they’re doing. You stop terrorism by investigating terrorists, not 95 year old American citizens with no record of suspicious activity or terrorist sympathies. By trying to be PC and “fair” you end up being both unfair and not doing the job you’re supposed to be doing.

  45. why the fuck is cnn covering this as if they’re gonna do something about it?  i tend to believe it’s just a shock-value distraction to turn my attention away from something i’m not supposed to know or think about… working up a public outcry sure doesn’t seem to be in cnn’s favor… but i guess it’s worth the risk if it’s covering up something else that will get a sure-fire reaction… it’s coming anyway.. it’s inevitable.. all it’s gonna take is one person getting hurt and it going public and the riots are on… but not over this, they could have left the airport, as anybody should have done in that situation, but i realize putting your 95-year-old mother through that kind of stress may have seemed a lot worse than her just shedding her diaper… wonder how this made the news anyway.

CNN covers things people watch, and it’s all they do, cover it.  That is the job of news organizations.

Also, news organizations are businesses, they can’t make money bringing people the things they need to know, only the things they will tune in to know.  C-Span is available for the things you need to know.
But Guest, I agree with you.  Don’t make your 95 year old family member a martyr for your cause, and bring a clean fucking diaper with you.  Sitting next to someone with a dirty diaper is a bomb of another kind.  If they soil it on the plane, well, nothing you can do about it.  However, boarding with a full diaper, and telling other passengers to suck it up (which she does by “normally” not carrying a spare), is way out of line.

    • Actually, they couldn’t have just left the airport. Once people are at the point of search, if they refuse, they are often arrested. You have to know the laws pretty well and be able to keep your cool and take the stress of it to manage to walk away once you get to that point, because it isn’t actually grounds to arrest you, but there’ve been countless stories of exactly that since the current policies took effect.
