Wikileaks’ Mastercard Parody

Wikileaks is suffering under a banking blockade. In response, they decided to help make Mastercard’s advertising more accurate:

Censorship, like everything else in the West, has been privatized.

For six months, five major US financial institutions, VISA, MasterCard, PayPal, Western Union and the Bank of America have tried to economically strangle WikiLeaks as a result of political pressure from Washington. The attack has blocked over 90% of donations, costing some $15M in lost revenue. The attack is entirely outside of any due process or rule of law. In fact, in the only formal review to occur, US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner found, on January 12, that there were no lawful grounds to add WikiLeaks to a financial blockade.

    We
could have a Collective Non Consumption day.

    By  acting
together and buying nothing at all  for just one day would
    send a message.

    It
would show us where the true power lies.

    If
we wish for change then one small act undertaken by us all will start
    our reality shift.

    Society
itself holds the power to create a Reality Shift.

    Support Collective
    Non Consumption day

    Support
the future of your species and its evolution.

Spread the word Organise to buy Nothing for a day.

Lets reveal the truly valuable in ourselves.

The governments, bankers, big business, greedy shareholders and Religions will all have to bow to our power.

I like that idea.  The AdBusters folks tried to launch something like that some years ago.  But I think their message may have gotten lost in the glossy retail magazine they used as a platform.

Clearly it was just chalk full of disturbing images and anti-consumption culture articles.  But my sense is that it ended up being a more a non-functional accessory to the coffee tables of gentrified brownstone dwelling daytrippers than an effective platform to spread countercultural ideas.

Gee, I thought that I sometimes over flowed the riverbanks with verbiage, but you got me beat with that one.
        lol
        Good work…

Paypal is evil to begin with so they were expected, but I’m surprised at these others following suit (although, not at Bank of America). I bet you the government won’t even listen to any complaints as this tends to benefit them as well. The crap thing is that there isn’t too much personally that we could do about it. Even the suggested boycott wouldn’t work, you would barely be a drop in their bucket and even if you were noticeable, it’s much more in their interest to blockade wikileaks which has the dirt on them until wikileaks promises not to release any dirt about them (which they won’t do).

I’m not surprised. When you get back to the source, their major shareholders all tend to be the same groups of people. The faces of the people at the head of the companies may change (and when it changes it tends to be swapping among the same people), but the shareholders are where the real decisions get made.

I’m not so certain since the majority shareholders tend to be the higher ups in the company anyhow.

Don’t use credit cards, If you pay for car and home loans, you could of had more bang
for your buck so you’re a fool. All it takes is a little patience,
discipline and willpower to overcome that need for instant
gratification and you can do it. You wouldn’t be sorry.

Mastercard et al serve no purpose other than to siphon off money and
funnel it to the top percentile of the population and when you use them
you are complicit in that too.  I hate to be the one to tell you this
because you seem like a nice person and I hate giving bad news to good people.
It’s an abusive relationship. Don’t send them a warning message, get a
    divorce. You’re just enabling them.

Well, boys and girls, I think the message is clear. Cut up your cards, use cash. Make sure
those companies who profit from our money and also, by the way, who get away with what
should be unlawful interest rates feel our outrage. Show them we don’t need them. Use CASH,
buy postal money orders, write checks.

Anyway, has anyone else heard all credit card transactions are cleared in Israel?
