‘Jihadi’ Terror Attack In Norway

[Update: This story was posted at a time when some portions of the media were reporting – incorrectly – that these acts were perpetrated by an Islamic group called “Helpers of the Global Jihad.”

That was not the case and it’s a lesson learned that one should not believe everything one reads on the disinformation website or, indeed, any other news source, including the New York Times, the source of the story. Read as many different sources as you can and then form your own opinion is never bad advice for us or anyone on this planet.]

The big story of the day so far, developing of course via multiple news channels. From the New York Times and CNN (video):

OSLO — Powerful explosions shook central Oslo on Friday afternoon, blowing out the windows of several government buildings, including one housing the office of the Norwegian prime minister. The state television broadcaster, citing the police, said seven people were killed and at least 15 injured; a spokeswoman for the prime minister, Jens Stoltenberg, said he was “safe and not hurt.”

Shortly after the explosions, which appeared to be a bomb attack, a man dressed as a police officer opened fire on a summer camp for young members of the ruling Labor Party on the island of Utoya in the Oslo fjord, about 25 miles from the city, and wounded at least five, a Norwegian security official said…

A terror group, Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami, or the Helpers of the Global Jihad, issued a statement claiming responsibility for the attack, according to Will McCants, a terrorism analyst at C.N.A., a research institute that studies terrorism. The message said the attack was a response to Norwegian forces’ presence in Afghanistan and to unspecified insults to the Prophet Muhammad. “We have warned since the Stockholm raid of more operations,” the group said, according to Mr. McCants’ translation, apparently referring to a bombing in Sweden in December 2010. “What you see is only the beginning, and there is more to come.” The claim could not be confirmed…

these are just something you have to live with today, they are very easy to do and very difficult to prevent unless the perpetrators are stupid

    • Yes, anything that comes with the name “analyst” be from a news network or any gov. organ like CIA, means more of a speculator than an actual meaningful intelligence work. CIA just works with information aquired from torture, gossip, bribery or just plain imagination. When attacks like this happens everyone stays with a question mark on their minds wondering what might have gone wrong. And when people find suspect are arrested everyone stay with another question mark wondering if they are indeed guilty of being terrorists.

There has been exactly 0% confirmed evidence that this had anything to do with Jihadis or Al Qaeda or Muslims of any kind and, in fact, the one guy they do have in custody is a white guy. Now, I’m not saying that it’s definitely not linked to any of these groups, but lets not jump to conclusions before we have all the facts straight. Wasn’t “Oslo was Bombed!” sensational enough without tacking on “by those evil MUSLIMS!”?

it could easily be a rightwing attack considering the pm is labor party and so was the camp, reminds me of the day of the OKC bombing, everyone was so sure it was a muslim plot

Norway has had an issue with right-wing extremists for a while. Whether this turns out to be their work remains to be seen.  We’ll have to wait until the police confirm the identity of the man they’ve arrested and see if he has any links to political organisations before talking about motivation otherwise it’s idle speculation and as useful as pissing in the ocean.

In the meantime our thoughts and sympathies should be with the victims and their families.

    • Actually, only now after hours CNN change “Norway under Attack” to “Norway Explosion” – interesting, “Norway under attack” from Islamic jihad and “Norway explosion” after identification of blond viking as shooter/bomber

    • Jin The Ninja | Jul 22, 2011 at 7:57 pm |

      my thoughts exactly.

    • I don’t blame disinfo for titling it as Jihadi considering the terrorist group Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami claimed responsibility for the attack as it was happening:

“A terror group, Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami (the Helpers of the Global Jihad), issued a statement claiming responsibility for the attack, according to Will McCants, a terrorism analyst at CNA, a research institute that studies terrorism. The message said the attack was a response to Norwegian forces’ presence in Afghanistan and to unspecified insults to the Prophet Muhammad. “We have warned since the Stockholm raid of more operations,” the group said, apparently referred to a bombing in Sweden in December 2010, according to Mr McCants’ translation. “What you see is only the beginning, and there is more to come.” The claim could not be confirmed.”

      http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/blog/2011/jul/22/oslo-explosion-live-coverage

“Today Norway has been targeted in order to be a lesson, and a lesson to the rest of Europe. We have warned since the Stockholm raid of more operations and we have demanded that European countries of Europe withdraw their armies from the land of Afghanistan and end their war on Islam and Muslims. We repeat our warning again to the countries of Europe and tell them that the demands of the mujahideen must be carried out. What you see is only the beginning. There will be more.

There were many reasons for the targeting of Norway. The most important is their participation in the occupation of Afghanistan and the abuse of our prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).”

Then they retracted saying it wasn’t their “official” response, which begs the question as to whether they were actually expecting an attack and this right wing nut job beat them to the punch or if they were just trying to take advantage of the situation to spread their message.

Given that the Norwegian government has confirmed that the man arrested for the shooting and believed to be involved in the earlier bombing is a blond, blue-eyed Norwegian, I think you should stop jumping to conclusions.

This sort of moronic garbage- written before any facts are confirmed and jumping to paranoid conclusions- doesn’t help anyone. It only serves to spread lies, raise tensions and make the author look like an idiot; talking of which [continued at New York Times] links to CNN.

At least let the Norwegians tend to their injured and dead before spreading scurrilous rumours.

Wrong…. Norway Police Say at Least 80 Killed in Youth Camp Shooting

At least 80 people were killed on Friday when a gunman stalked youths at
an island summer camp for young members of the governing Labor Party,
the police said on national television early Saturday.

Before the shooting attack, explosions in Oslo killed seven people and
wounded at least 15, the police said, according to the state television
    broadcaster.

After the shooting the police seized a 32-year-old Norwegian man on the
island, according to the police and Justice Minister Knut Storberget. He
was later identified as Anders Behring Breivik and was characterized by
    officials as a right-wing extremist.

The man was arrested in connection with both attacks.

Jihad is Jihad, whether Christian, Islamic or Jewish/Zionist.

It’s going to be interesting to see the terminology used in the media. The European press is now using the term “Christian fundamentalist”, which is kinda new. Will US media take over that term? It seems unlikely.

Note that, in contrast to terrorism by Muslims, the terrorism unleashed by Irish Catholics and Protestants was never connected directly to their religion. They are euphemistically called  “Republicans” and “Loyalists”.

Furthermore, because Anders Behring Breivik, the Norwegian perpetrator, was not an outsider from another culture, he can’t be designated as “evil”. He is merely a “deranged nutter”. While the label is not exactly an excuse for his act, it is an attempt to make it understandable. Contrast that the corporate media’s approach to Islamic terrorists.

Gotta love that the url contains the words “UFO blogger”.  If you can’t trust a UFO blogger about the Illuminati, well, I just don’t want to live in this world.

  75. Can we be sure it wasn’t the US Government doing this, we need more terrorism to keep them in business

In majestic’s defense, EVERYONE jumped to the conclusion that it was a Islamic Jihadist attack.  Yes, the title should be changed, but you can’t really blame the guy for jumping to the same conclusions that everyone else in the media did.

    • Everyone, tuna? Really? You don’t mean ‘quite a few people, but largely only in the tabloids’?

Holy crap you’re right, we should take on Terror immediately…hell, why don’t we declare war on terrorism?  There’s no way that could wrong.

    No way at all.

O give me a dam break. Most people could not even tell you what Jihad is and what the prerequisites are for it. You cant just get up one day and say “Hey this is a great week for Jihad” Like its a dam bake sale. FFS media is stupid and the followers of media even more stupid.

  86. Disinformation indeed: http://thinkprogress.org/security/2011/07/22/277229/norway-attacks-suspect-custody/

How about Disingenuous? That sounds much more accurate.

I don’t blame disinfo for titling it as Jihadi considering the terrorist group Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami claimed responsibility for the attack as it was happening:

Funny how the word terrorist is only used to label muslim people. But when it comes to some christian, they say it was a bomber or some shooting.

  92. they always take responsibility for the attacks… it’s probably the u.s. government issuing those statements.  it’s about time it was exposed it wasn’t them.  maybe this will shine light on ALL the other instances in which they have just taken credit.

  94. Have to congratulate NYTimes on their swift conclusion of the case. They should take over the FBI and CIA…because clearly the psychic powers of the NYT allow it precog the events and determine guilt without any actual facts or evidence.

After all…lesser groups might have waited until they learned that the bomber shooter was a white male conservative native of Norway with a penchant for fantasism. But thats boring compared to a headline with ‘jihad’ in it.

  100. “one should not believe everything one reads on the disinformation website”

Clearly. You see to be full of shit, the more I read.  God, I can hardly believe I had an account with you guys when you started. WTF happened to disinfo?

I left a few years back, and coming back it’s a shock to see how far it’s fallen.

I’ll be leaving again soon, I imagine.
