NYPD Detonates Two And A Half Tons Of Confiscated Fireworks

Wondering who witnessed the country’s best-by-far pyrotechnics display this past weekend? New York City’s killjoy police officers, who held a private detonation of a year’s worth of confiscated illegal fireworks. At least they were kind enough to get the squelching of our joy on film:

More than 5,000 pounds of fireworks were detonated in one big pile at the New York Police Department firing range in the Bronx on Friday, July 1, 2011.

I wish they did it at night. In the air. As a free public display (we already paid for it with our tax dollars). Just seems like kind of a waste to me.

Once again, the cops are exempt from the laws they enforce.

Why destroy the fireworks in this manner? This is much more dangerous then, say, soaking them in water and shredding them.

Pigs having fun you are not allowed to have, and on your dime.

    Move along civilian!

Why didn’t they shoot them off at night? They could have sold tickets.
