Vegan Is The New Viagra!

In the hot new doc promoting a plant-based diet, Forks Over Knives, Dr. Terry Mason calls erectile disfunction “the canary in the coalmine” for cardiovascular problems. This promo clip goes quite a bit farther than that … the vegan diet has never sounded so compelling!

A high fat (low carb) diet is healthier for the heart than any other diet. Christopher Gardner (a vegan) at Stanford ran the randomized controlled trial that proved it.

ever heard of the garden diet? or raw vegan… google it

      • John July 28, 2011 at 9:37 pm #

yeah I think the raw veggie thing is built on a false premise. They say that cooking foods destroys the enzymes so it’s not as healthy as raw. But any enzymes your body uses are created by your body.
Your body wouldn’t know what to do with say, a spinach enzyme.
Also raw proponents say that cooking food makes it produce Advanced Glycation End-Products (AGEs) – and while this is true, it’s the same false premise as the enzymes, your body isn’t going to utilize the AGEs from a charbroiled burger. I don’t even know if they are absorbed by the body.
Your body however unfortunately creates its own AGEs as a by-product of glycation (having elevated glucose levels).
Salads are great – going raw can’t hurt, but the benefits aren’t quite what they’re reported to be, I don’t think.

Low carb? Where do you get your energy?

      • John July 29, 2011 at 1:01 am #

        Mostly from fat and protein.

Okay…but what good is a hard dick if you have to fuck a vegan with it? The whining and snarking and pissing and bitching cancels out any hope of maintaining a boner in their presence.

What applies to computer programming applies to the human body: garbage in, garbage out. But as far as sex is concerned: garbage in, dick useless.

Which is why I favor as many non-processed, organic raised meats from local sources as possible. Look up the Slow Food movement. My little bro is a chef and hooks me up with great recommendations for better eating without sacrificing whole food groups.

I keep telling folks…the problem isn’t the meat…its whats done to it before it hits the table. Take away the hormones and steroids and preservatives and antibiotics…and what you have left is not just edible…its fantastic. Also…on the economic front…learn to dress and butcher at home. Buy in bulk…prep it yourself…and you save money as well. Our hand cut steaks are a legend in our neighborhood :-)

Animals have feelings too, they will eat you whenever they feel like it! So we have to lock them up and eat them until we can learn to grow meat in petri dishes. Then we can be accepted by the vegan aliens and explore space in peace and harmony forever .. or so I’ve read.

        • TacoAint1 July 29, 2011 at 12:35 am #

Except for all those studies showing that the meat protein itself is actually pretty bad for you and causes all kinds of fucked up diseases…

Honestly, if you want a more in dept answer you should read this book. I’m not a vegan nor ever wanted to be one, but this book was very enlightening. I have no sympathy for animals, but this book made me seriously rethink the choices I make in my diet.

This is a book everyone should read as most people, like my self before, have no idea what really is good for the body.

The Chinese eat “everything that walks with its back toward heaven,” and they balance it out with rice and vegetables, which is why Oriental diets are not as bad for you as the American diet.

          • Jin The Ninja July 30, 2011 at 7:57 pm #

Just two minor corrections (and otherwise i agree),  the saying in chinese refers specifically to cantonese people, and “oriental” technically refers to turkish and middle eastern people, and if you are referring to east asia, asian is a much better (less loaded with victorian racism) word.

          • DeepCough July 31, 2011 at 3:49 pm #

“Oriental” means “Eastern” and “Occidental” means “Western.” It would be more racist to say “Chink food” or “Chinaman’s diet.”

          • Jin The Ninja July 31, 2011 at 3:59 pm #

No one in academia uses the term “oriental” to refer to asia.

Edward Said wrote the seminal and foundational text, “Orientalism” in the 1950s. It was one of the first post-colonialist texts written from a middle eastern perspective. It is used in nearly every first or second year course in Near Eastern Studies and East Asian Studies. Yes, that would be “more” racist, but why be racist at all? Language is your friend! there are much better and more apt descriptors to use.

Nobody ever said that vegans can ONLY fuck other vegans.

And for as much as I’ve heard the stereotype that all vegans are whiny bitches, I’ve heard waaaay more whining from omnivores. It’s like they’re living in constant fear that roving gangs of vegans will jump out from the bushes and force-feed them tofu or something, or, god forbid, even begin to imply that they might be presented with the benefits of a lifestyle different than the one they grew up with….

Chill, dude. I know you’re all butthurt because your boner’s been failing you, but you don’t have to be a dick about it (pun totally intended).

I’m a level 5 Vegan.  I don’t eat anything that casts a shadow.  You know what does cast a shadow?  My pulsating, enormous, looming genitals.

In all seriousness, its no great revelation that a healthy diet is an important ingredient for a better sex life.  What’s worst for your libido, unfortunately, is sitting still all day staring at a screen.
