Not long ago, it was unheard of for a pastor to talk about sex from the pulpit.

Today, clergy are talking about porn.

Many evangelical pastors say they don’t have a choice. The Internet has made porn unavoidable; it’s everywhere. And porn, they say, leads to a lack of intimacy in marriage, threatening the biblical mandate to get and stay married.

In the past few years, Christian leaders have established online ministries to tackle the problem, hosting anti-porn podcast sermons and Web chats. The popular evangelical blog Crosswalk.com recently ran an article headlined “How many porn addicts are in your church?”

Christian publishers, meanwhile, have produced a wave of recent books on the subject, including popular titles like “Porn-Again Christian,” “Secret Sexual Sins: Understanding a Christian’s Desire for Pornography” and “Eyes of Integrity: The Porn Pandemic and How It Affects You.”

Evangelical pastor Jeremy Gyorke recently came forward to talk about how porn has affected him. In July, the 32-year-old confessed his porn addiction in a sermon at Wyandotte Family Church, just outside Detroit.

“I’m part of a generation of Christians who grew up keeping your mouth shut about your personal life,” he says. “Goodness no, we didn’t talk about sex.”

“But now that we have a little say in the attitude of the church, we’re taking a different approach,” Gyorke continues. “We’re putting it all out there, saying you don’t have to keep secrets. Come forward and admit that you’ve made a mistake, and you can be healed.”…

    Now come on Christians…..First you go around trying to ‘cure’ homosexuals, and now you want to ‘cure’ straight men from looking at porn….. Those two goals are mutually contradicting……Straight men need to look at pictures of naked women from time to time…..It’s part of what makes us straight . It’s always been that way since the first cave-man scratched an image of a boob in the dirt with a stick…..remember all of those Renaissance paintings of bare breasted women? Yep….at least the Church recognized its need back then, and were willing to call it art! Now I suppose it’s the same thing for gay men and porn too….I’m sure they look at porn just as much as us straight guys…..and for the record, I may think that trying to change a gay man into a strait man is a stupid and unhealthy thing to do…….but all I’m saying is that if your goal is to turn a gay man straight….you’re not going to do it by explaining to him how great the Vagina is! You’re gonna have to show the guy some really great porn (even that probably won’t work if the guy is really, REALLY gay and not teetering on some bisexual fence………but it’s the only chance you got, and you’r gonna be giving it up if you’re trying to ‘cure’ people of porn at the same time! So choose one socially backward, and ideologically questionable path, and stick to it!

    From my own personal experience I agree with these ministries from a secular level.  As a Porn user, I have found that the over-abundance of porn, has ruined porn for me.  I can’t enjoy it anymore.  Think to yourself the last time a porn video turned you on. 

    We’re becoming over-saturated with stimulation.  To make an analogy between nude paintings of women (that very few people owned) and movies depicting multiple sex acts is to misunderstand the effects of the two items.  Yes the nude painting could give someone a boner too, but it’s not like the average person during the Renaissance had thousands of those paintings in their homes that they could look at around 2am. 

    I am not suggesting making laws to limit porn.  However, I think it’s a good idea to take a porn fast, or just get rid of it as a habit.  For the enjoyment porn’s sake.

    Nice Godwin.  How about we just keep the Cristian Taliban out of our politics instead? You know, keep them from killing all the homosexuals (and just about anyone else that disagrees with their particular flavor of worship) like some of them have advocated, and as many seemed OK with in the 30′s in this country.

    It says it right in their bible,the solution is obvious: castration for Christian men.  Problem solved!

    Porn isn’t real life, and it’s clear that a lot of people are forgetting that. Like fast food, it’s specifically designed to be as addictive and attractive as possible. It’s not much better than that study where they put a little device in a guy’s brain that would activate his pleasure nodes when he pushed a button. Needless to say, all he cared about was pushing that button. People should enjoy life, but too much of anything is a bad thing. Moderation is the key to success.

    To be fair, a lot of porn is really dreadfully boring.  A close-up video shot of body parts mechanically crashing into one another isn’t as erotic as, say, close-ups of faces acting as if they’re in the throes of passion.  It’s the thrill of breaking a taboo that makes that stuff interesting, and that naturally wears off.

    Between their issues with homosexuality and pornography, there’s a common cause in opposition to nonreproductive sex of any kind.  We see the same thing in Christian opposition to sex education in classrooms.  It’s the idea of people living as actualized human beings, instead of mere robot vehicles for our DNA, that the churches have really aligned themselves against.

     The only thing you should take from the bible is Genesis 6. Alien’s or angels if you are still brainwashed, came down and with their awesomeness and better swagger were able to seduce women. XXX not as bad as the bible and its Power Control. The light is and has only been yourself! Earth is the mother, and if you decide to jerk it off, it will completely blow its load on you!

    Good old religion…only when you’re crippled by self hatred, doubt, fear and misery…do you need to depend on a crutch handily provided by the person working overtime to make sure you’re crippled.

    It is truly insane how disconnected mankind has become from his intended purpose. Left to our own devices there seems to be no limit to depths of the depravity that we will sink to. The attitudes I have witnessed on these comment lists for disinfo.com over my first two days are far removed from the attitudes I encounter on the streets or in the common workplace environmen on a daily basist. In other words the site seems to cater primarily to one predominant mindset which in my opinion is viciously slanted toward humanism. It is these attitudes that tend to rule in tyranny, and that will be responsible for ushering in our armegeddon, not there make believe tyranical Christians. If it weren’t for a peace loving people (not the ones who abuse power among other things in the name of God) clinging to a respectable level of morality there would be no more reason for the grace period we’ve been so blessed with and thus no reason for our creator to save a useless remnant.  We are well on our way boys…….You all here are the essence of evil. I’ll be praying for ya. Good luck in your tiny little world.
