GOP Debate Audience Cheers Texas’s 234 Executions

“I think Americans understand justice…In the state of Texas…you will face the ultimate justice.”

The biggest positive response at last night’s Republican presidential debate may have occurred when moderator Brian Williams, addressing Rick Perry, began, “Your state has executed 234 death row inmates, more than any other governor in modern times,” at which point he was interrupted as the crowd spontaneously broke into rapturous applause.

The Death Penalty Information Center lists nine people executed by Texas in recent years who were likely innocent.

In the mind of right wing freaks, executing innocent people “shows a lot of guts.” Savages.

Well, if you are of the opinion that Christianity is a death cult, then it would be entirely reasonable to assume so.

Well, my first clue was when I walked into a church and saw that its primary symbol was the crucifix, a device for capital punishment in ancient Persia and Rome, but that’s just me.

They do have a lot of cannibalistic symbolism.

      • And not to mention their many jihads which completely tower over the insignificant mosquito bites of the muslim jihads.

Death Cult, Christianity, yeah seems about right. Why else would you serve such an angry God?

  9. It all comes down to one question:

After a fuck up…do you feel comfortable apologizing to (or ignoring) the families of the dead people who, as it turned out, got convicted in an unseemly hurry?

Obviously…some people feel that a few dead retarded people who were induced to confess through coercion or false testimony is a small price to pay to instill a ‘fear of justice’ in others as a deterrent…

…but the flaw here is that, if executions are any form of deterrent…then by using them the number of execution needed should go down…which to date has never happened. The only people touting the death penalty are people who just like to kill…and they aren’t even especially picky about who they do it to or why.

As for me…my only real objection to the death penalty is that its determined as appropriate or inappropriate to pursue by DAs…who are lawyers in a highly political position. Think about that a second or two. Lawyer/politician hybrid. Literally…the call is being made by a creature less trustworthy than a starving shark with rabies. If it were done with a set of criteria that had to be carefully considered and met unequivocally…maybe it would be okay…but the way it works now…its pretty much about who wants to look good in front of the cameras that week. Fuck that noise…we’d achieve more ‘justice’ by frying the DAs.

I would like to offer you a job as a DA. But you don’t really sound like you ‘have what it takes’. I’m terribly sorry.

      • I always fail the exams for that kind of thing…they seem to be calibrated to detect the presence of a soul…so unless I get rid of mine they’ll never take me.

This is disgusting. And I say that as someone who’s not entirely against the death penalty. There are actually crimes that merit death as far as I’m concerned. Rape, extreme child abuse, torture, mass murder. These count as hanging offenses to me. The problem is how often innocent people are convicted. If there’s the slightest doubt, any little sliver, you shouldn’t execute because there’s a chance you have the wrong person and that future developments will exonerate them. And if that happens, you’ve just killed an innocent person.

wow he is stone cold. killing is not something to be proud of ever even  if its for justice. Its like putting down a dog, its sad, not something you draw attention to or to get cheered on. Most killers have a death wish anyway it does not deter anything if anything it keeps them from showing extreme hate to themselves making their death emotionally pleasant. Pure evil these politicians… and who the heck wants texas of all states sending someone to rule the country? We don’t need anymore help to stroke our animalistic blood lust. I would force hard criminals to watch cheery children’s cartoons for life with the volume way high or at  least till they reached catharsis amd truly felt remorse for their crimes by becoming depressed.  People like Perry are similar to Hitler, stroking  extreme nationalism and racism which I have learned caused germany to go rogue. Maybe he should focus on the wild fires killing all their homes, as shelters is an extension of its inhabitants. Disaster response and prevention are the marks of truly great leaders, anything else we can take care of but they love to meddle in our mundane affairs with their idle hands.

My dear ol dad and I were discussing the death penalty and I brought up the fact that a significant number of innocent people get executed. His response: “Fuck em, they probably did something else to deserve it.” Perry’s got his vote sewn up.

Yeah, I got the same response from my dear old mum when I told her about how the massively understaffed forensic evidence office in Detroit had fucked up the evidence for 75% of the cases in the last 5 years, likely sending several innocent people to prison.  “Well they probably did something, anyway”.  My mother, ladies and gentlemen.

how can people say they support the death penalty but hate this video. you cant have it both ways, you cant just say “well if only we had a ‘perfect state’ that didn’t commit errors and that always executed the most heinous of criminals and never executed innocents” Show me a government you trust and would give the right to murder the citizens of your state.

We shouldn’t be killing eachother, or raping or abusing eachother just for revenge (in the name of ‘justice’). just doesnt float, maybe if people thought about it a little longer instead of trusting their primal instincts.

  31. The fucked up part is not that the audience would applaud, but somebody thought it was a good idea to put the audio of a applause in that spot.. because the shot of the audience directly after shows none of them clapping.

If there is proof-positive that someone committed a murder in cold blood and they are completely unrepentant than I have no qualms whatsoever about sentencing them to death…society is better off without them.

  37. Like most idiots, they’re all for something til you give them a taste of their own medicine.

Aerial bombardment of any nation that looks at us crossways?  We’re all for that.
Blow up a couple of our buildings with airplanes? You’re the worst people ever and we’ll invade any place in the world to kill you.

Cop shoots and kills an innocent person? Ho-hum, cost of doing business.
Average person shoots and kills a cop who is out of line? It’s intensive manhunts, warrant-less house to house searches and roadblocks til someone gets the blame.

Kill our enemies abroad for us? Here’s a medal timmy.
Kill some people you think are enemies here? We’ll, we’ve got the death penalty for that.

    Fucking hypocrites.
