Even the left, as shown in this interview, has a problem with talking about the solution – sharing the world’s resources. The answer lies in changing the global game from chasing money to pursuing policies where justice and cooperation enable everyone to have the opportunity to experience the fullness and beauty in life.   Such perspectives are still out of the bounds of current discussion.

“It is clear now that pure capitalism has come to an end. It has no future whatsoever. The economy, education, the environment — everything — will be placed within the context of global social democracy in which everyone participates.”

Utopian dreaming. I wish it were true. Recently I started to doubt democracy is possible and secondly even if it were I don’t have faith in the majority of people anyway. In terms of environment.. 7 billion people, soon 8, nearly all wanting to consume like Americans!… All wanting and often needing MORE resources, all wanting babies, all wanting material things. And all obsessed with THEIR cultural identities, their traditions, their religion, their country. You wish people to be on board with the values of the Enlightenment, a bunch of little Voltaires. Rationalists. Most people aren’t open minded intellectuals, they’re racially prejudiced and ethnocentric and selfish.

Always. And no, there won’t be many people around to experience it, because everything is going to die. That’s the only legacy that capitalism will leave.

If capitalism has no future I  suspect there wont be many people around to experience post-capitalism.
