‘Wi-Fi Refugees’ Take Shelter In West Virginia Mountains

_55331114_55331113Is it mass hypochondria? More than ten million Americans believe they suffer from physical illness caused by cell phone and wireless internet networks. Some are upending their lives and retreating to remote Green Bank, West Virginia, a safe haven unpenetrated by Wi-Fi. Fast forward ten years, and you can bet they are going to be the last small band of humanity fighting the robot uprising. The BBC writes:

Dozens of Americans who claim to have been made ill by wi-fi and mobile phones have flocked to the town of Green Bank, West Virginia.

Diane Schou is unable to hold back the tears as she describes how she once lived in a shielded cage to protect her from the electromagnetic radiation caused by waves from wireless communication. “It’s a horrible thing to have to be a prisoner,” she says. “You become a technological leper because you can’t be around people.

Ms Schou is one of an estimated 5% of Americans who believe they suffer from Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS), which they say is caused by exposure to electromagnetic fields typically created by mobile phones, wi-fi and other electronic equipment.

Symptoms range from acute headaches, skin burning, muscle twitching and chronic pain. “My face turns red, I get a headache, my vision changes, and it hurts to think. Last time [I was exposed] I started getting chest pains – and to me that’s becoming life-threatening,” Ms Schou says.

Her symptoms were so severe that she abandoned her family farm in the state of Iowa and moved to Green Bank, West Virginia – a tiny village of 143 residents in the heart of the Allegheny Mountains.

Green Bank is part of the US Radio Quiet Zone, where wireless is banned across 13,000 sq miles (33,000 sq km) to prevent transmissions interfering with a number of radio telescopes in the area.

The largest is owned by the National Radio Astronomy Observatory and enables scientists to listen to low-level signals from different places in the universe. Others are operated by the US military and are a critical part of the government’s spy network.

As a result of the radio blackout, the Quiet Zone has become a haven for people like Diane, desperate to get away from wireless technology.

The wireless association, CTIA, says that scientific evidence overwhelmingly shows that wireless devices, with the limits established by government regulators, do not pose a public health risk or cause any adverse health effects.

And the World Health Organization, while acknowledging that the symptoms are genuine and can be severe, says: “EHS has no clear diagnostic criteria and there is no scientific basis to link EHS symptoms to EMF (electromagnetic field) exposure. Further, EHS is not a medical diagnosis, nor is it clear that it represents a single medical problem.”

However, new research by scientists at Louisiana State University and published by the International Journal of Neuroscience, claims to show that EHS can be caused by low frequency electromagnetic fields found in the environment.

“The study provides direct evidence that linking human symptoms with environmental factors, in this case EMF,” says Dr Andrew Marino, a neurology professor who led the study. “It’s a watershed in that regard. There have been no previous studies that scientifically assess whether electromagnetic fields in the environment could produce human symptoms.

    two things:

if CTIA says it, it MUST be true (eyeroll here)! an industry lobby ALWAYS cares about people over profit, AND have NEVER falsified  data or outright lied about health risks.

    2. although there is a wireless blackout- these people live within range of several large army radio telescopes wouldn’t that in some way affect them?

#2 I thought the exact same thing…unless they are simply receivers..maybe I don;t know enough.

although these waves probably are affecting us, I would put money on their symptoms being psychosomatic in nature

You know whats funny. Even the power in your house is radiating those EMF frequency’s so I think this woman is paranoid.

Funny how the radio-telescopes and the governments spy network are effected by wifi, but it would be extremely hard to believe that humans could be effected by it.

Everyone knows that these new technologies are very safe; I know this because government and science experts told me and always believe everything authoritative sources tell me.

emf in high concentration can cause some problems. Like if you stand too close to the microwave all the time while its on, or spend too much time next to the fuse box in your house. It can cause hallucinations in some and nausea. dont live under high tension powerlines people. but most cell phones these days dont emit enough to trip my k2 meter. dumb phones sure do tho, the emf meter lights up like xmas with older phones

I reckon most of these people have poor diets consisting of mostly sugar and grains.

Most of which people? The people who moved to Green Bank because of their belief it would help their apparent sensitivity to wifi? If that’s the group you are referring to, then I doubt they have a poor diet consisting mostly of sugar and grains.because anyone that desperate for relief probably changed their diet before they moved. If you are referring to all of the people complaining of wifi sensitivity, then perhaps there is some sort of diet link. A lot of people’s diets are high in acid. One source of acid is citric acid being added to food.

Trent University Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, Proffessor agrees, come out fighting wi-fi in public schools in Ontario – She has a very solid case! She has nothing to lose! She is practically muzzled by Corporate Media even the Public broadcaster CBC – Harper’s conservative cronies , dividend collectors, didn’t like the truth out?

you know what’s even funnier. yeah, even the power in your house is radiating those EMF frequencies and it is making us all sick. some people are just quicker to feel the harsh effects sooner than others. but don’t fool yourself, these frequencies are fucking up peoples’ health and well-being. and by the time douche-bags get their head out of their asses, and quit denying and playing shit off, the better.

When I walk under high tension wires, I feel what I’ll refer to as electricity in the air. It makes my head hurt. Sometimes I feel it when I’m close to wires on telephone poles. I haven’t been this way my whole life. It started happening after my health got bad. So I think these people may be suffering from a health condition that makes them more sensitive to wifi.
