Christ as Consciousness

MD-15 Before a person receives Consciousness they’re just another animal — albeit a sophisticated one. We tacitly assume everyone has Consciousness because people can walk upright, carry on in conversation and generally act civil. However, some people are merely domesticated primates — they only have a highly developed brain supplemented by a complex language system. But you can teach a chimp one of our languages; doesn’t mean they have Consciousness.

This new paradigm, this new consensus that Christ is our personal Consciousness — is key to lifting the veil of ignorance that has kept us in fear of each other. Incidentally, Apocalypse literally means, ‘lifting the veil.‘ This revelation of God within us will unite us on higher mental levels causing, by reflex action, peace on earth.

The original purpose of government and religion was to create in a world where they were no longer needed. They taught us the proper ways to act towards one another: Thou shalt not kill, steal or lie; thou shalt love thy neighbor as theyself. The problem, however, is that these institutions became magnets for psychopaths who have no sympathy for you or your problems. Repeat this after me: Power does not corrupt the corrupt seek power. But the joke is on them, because, like I said, these institutions were designed to be destroyed by the very powers that created them . . . us.

At some point the ruling class realized this beautiful irony — that a truly effective government would eventually render itself obsolete. And so it’s no coincidence that the very same people who tell us we need them to protect us from criminals are the same people who CREATE crime and poverty! They do it by making certain things illegal which in turn creates a criminal class. We the people learned the lesson of prohibition — and most of us are banging our head against the wall trying to figure why our politicians haven’t learned the same lesson. Well it’s easy to understand if you accept a simple but depressing truth: Power does not corrupt the corrupt seek power. That’s it. Mystery solved: our elected officials are not stupid and they don’t mean well.

But this doesn’t have to be depressing if we accept responsibility for the situation we’re in. In fact, this all ties back into promoting Consciosuness. The issue with Consciousness is autonomy. Conversely, the issue with animals is hierarchy — domesticated primates follow certain rules just because they’re afraid of the consequences of not following them. Real peace is only possible if we understand the underlying value certain laws possess. And that means understanding the value of empathy — and you can only understand empathy if you possess Consciousness; I think, therefore I am; therefore, I can think about YOU.

Subsequently, with the realization that Christ is Consciousness comes the dictum that we follow our highest light — God within us. Our Imagination and theology are synonymous. To promote Consciousness you must Change how you think — stop accepting beliefs and start creating ideas – ideas that make you feel good about your little corner of the universe. I’m talking about creating ART-MYTH as personal spirituality. ART-MYTH is different from RELIGIOUS-BELIEF because we go into it knowing art-myth is meant to be a personal, subjective thing. At most it inspires others to create their own art-myth.

So to recap. . . Starting now — not only will the art we create be our primary mode of spirituality — but thanks to the creative-based economy, it will also ensure our financial independence.

This revelation is the basis of a spiritual awakening that disregards the animalistic instinct for social hierarchy and promotes autonomy — creating peace on earth — “As the individual become more collective, the collective becomes more individual.

A truly effective government will eventually render itself obsolete.

This means morality comes from us — from our Consciousness and empathy.

As some sort of mystical agnostic, this is a theology I can truly dig. The only way I can make sense of “god” or the gods and goddesses is as metaphors deeply embedded in – oh, allow me to borrow from Jung – our collective unconscious. Which itself seems like a thick metaphor. This kind of thinking is like biting one’s own teeth: it’s impossible and besides, it misses the point.

Anyway, creativity and imagination make sound theology to me; very little else makes sense to me when we talk of gods. I think Robert Anton Wilson and, earlier by an influence on RAW, F.Nietzsche, thought along these lines, only they buried the bone deeper.

I enjoyed this article, R. Talmadge Lacy. Thanks!

    Interesting post Mr Lacy…

Allow me to expand on the subject of consciousness. I see that you capitalize “consciousness” as a way of denoting it’s higher form over that of animal, vegetable, or even mineral or inanimate consciousness (all forms contain energy or consciousness).
As you explained: “Consciousness; I think, therefore I am; therefore, I can think about YOU.”

I’m a little thrown by the use of the word “Christ” though. Do you refer to the “anointed one” aka Jesus?

” This new paradigm, this new consensus that Christ is our personal Consciousness” Please elaborate on this reference. There really is alot I  like about your post, but christ, what’s with the Christ thing? did you have to put that Christ-ian brand on an otherwise good discussion? Sorry, maybe I’m ranting…

” Power does not corrupt — the corrupt seek power.” I do find that rather profound and worthy of “meditation”.

I’m with @Strass:disqus on this one. “If I swap out Christ with the abstract idea of human decency, then I can agree with this article.”

    • Jakejumpedoverthemoon

The word ” Christ ” is definitely loaded. How about Mind/Wave/Spirit. We must look past the words and get to the meaning. Every culture has a different name  for  the wave nature of reality. Once you discover your wave nature, everything changes, you begin to get plugged in. Imagine a speaker sitting in the middle of a room playing music. The speaker is limited to a position in time/space, but the sound fills the WHOLE (holy, holographic) room, being wave. You are not particle. You are wave. Real power, real freedom, comes from wave thinking, not particle thinking. We are all wave, we share the mind of “god”, another loaded word. Fuck the words, get to the source.

It’s funny.. this is how I’ve thought about it for a long time yet never put it like this. This way makes much more sense if you know how things behave at the quantum scale. So that’s probably why I’ve never even tried putting it this way to a quantum noob. xD

It’s bs in the sense that it’s new age stuff trying to play off of the validity of old age stuff by utilizing the same terminology. In a certain sense, it’s just dishonesty.

But crafty dishonesty. I would even maybe say “useful” dishonesty, if there is such a term. Some new agers even go so far to believe “Christ”(sometimes pronounced like the first syllable in crystalline) does not directly imply the person Jesus Christ, and is instead defined by the “Christ consciousness” which is “crystallized” in the human culture and discourse.

I never said it was specifically MY worldview though. In fact I would even argue that maybe my worldview isn’t the best to have, as it is in a (possibly permanent) transient state. • Simiantongue

I think Christ is supposed to be read as a verb. Except it’s capitalized, so maybe not.

      • Anti-Crowley

Except it’s capitalized, so maybe not.  Oh, wait you already refuted yourself…sorry.

        • Simiantongue

There is nothing to refute, I was just throwing a possibility out there. They capitalized Consciousness too quite purposefully, which could be another clue. Breaking free of syntax could represent an attempt at breaking free of conventional thought.

If we use language to frame thinking, then changing the way we express language can change thought. Christ does to me in this instance read like a verb. But they capitalized it. We generally capitalize when used as a name or direct address. But not when it’s used generally. As in the word pastor. “There is a pastor in the parish”You wouldn’t. But, “Thank you for sending this to me Pastor.” You would capitalize.

So I thought I would throw out here that I thought which was that “Christ” is being used as a verb. Because it appears to be, to me at least. Except, as I said, it’s capitalized. Which kind of stumped me a bit. If they are changing syntax in order to change how we are thinking then I was pondering, and giving thought to, exactly what new type of thought they were expressing by examining their syntax.

We are here to exchange thoughts about these articles, or do you wish to refute that too?

          • Simiantongue

“So I thought I would throw out here that I thought which was that “Christ” is being used as a verb.”
            Should read:
“So I thought I would throw out here what I thought, which was that Christ” is being used as a verb”

I was interrupted mid sentence and I didn’t proof read sorry.

    • http://www.facebook.com/r.talmadge.lacy R. Talmadge Lacy

ABout Jesus: My feelings are that Jesus was a Man who attained Consciousness in all its full-tilt bewildering mystery. And the thing about existence also being a form of Consciousness is that by virtue of a personal Consciousness we have the potential to manipulate reality with our mind. Matthew 6:22.
Christ is a title, Jesus was a name like God is a title and Yahweh is a name.
I interpret the trinity as three different aspects of the same thing, the difference between myself and mainstream Christians is how I define the three aspects; the Father is existence as a whole; the son aspect, Christ is the agency of Intelligence, or Consciousness; and the Holy Spirit is Energy. So with this simple twist of interpretation we understand that Existence is one conscious energy, and this is what we call God. Furthermore, ENERGY cannot be created nor destroyed — as in “I AM THE ALPHA & OMEGA”
Christ is a “Man” because as humans we possess Consciousness. They say we are all one in Christ, therefore we are all one Consciousness experiencing itself.

      Neat, huh?

Except it’s capitalized, so maybe not.  Oh, wait you already refuted yourself…sorry.

  • Anti-Crowley

Inferiority is what feeds the Darwinian system Anti-Citizen1, you can’t leave home without it in biological evolution.

I think they offer great deals on viagra don’t they?

  • Anti-Crowley

Like Pol Pot and Stalin.  Lame argument.

  • Anti-Crowley

Bet it picks up now that I am here.  The reason was because there was no focus of the hatred without a Christian posting.

  • Anti-Crowley

I’m not sure if this qualifies as special pleading when compared to your approach in previous articles Gradient.  But I will accuse you of it anyway.

I never said it was specifically MY worldview though. In fact I would even argue that maybe my worldview isn’t the best to have, as it is in a (possibly permanent) transient state. But when two worldviews conflict eachother, confuse eachother, or even augment eachother, I’m there to push these cases further.

Your stuff is always a good read too, if not only for other people’s reactions

  • http://hormeticminds.blogspot.com/ Chaorder Gradient

Well I’d much rather people say “this is bullshit” on its own merits, than people say “this is bullshit because it mentions christ and christ is christian and christians are stupid” for obvious reasons

A wordview that doesn’t evolve belongs to a person who can’t learn.

It’s funny.. this is how I’ve thought about it for a long time yet never put it like this. This way makes much more sense if you know how things behave at the quantum scale. So that’s probably why I’ve never even tried putting it this way to a quantum noob. xD

    Neat, huh?

All the ‘anti-spiritualists’ seem to ignore the fact that at the end of the article I leave all human progress squarely in our own hands. This is ultimately an HUMANISTIC philosophy. All the talk of God is merely an expression of my own personal ART-MYTH — which I create because it makes me feel good about my personal corner of the universe. I am an autonomous being and I have the right to pursue happiness in my own delusions. If other find value in it. . . and some have. . . then why do you care?

“I think therefore I am”? I think what youre speaking of here is called the ego…which is not consciousness, but an illusion of self/separateness which we are all endowed with. we are not our thoughts, we have just forgotten this…although eastern philosophies have been pointing to this fact for 5,000 years.

many people seem to think consciousness is something they “possess”. however this implies that we are somehow separate from consciousness – that is to say, outside of it…”theres me, and theres consciousness” No…we, and everything else, ARE consciousness, we dont HAVE it. this isnt just a new-age theory, there is a lot of very old, very significant information backing this up, as well as a lot of relatively new science in the realm of Quantum Physics.

alright, this ego is done talking now.

Anti-Crowley, you would be correct if what she had said was mere opinion or beliefs. She does not speak from a position of smug opinion, but from the position of an child who *knows* the sky is definitely blue…and will become angry when told they are lying.

She has science to back her up, so you’re not going to be able to convince her that her point is also subjective opinion until you get into some arguments about existentialism and the assumptions behind natural philosophy, e.g. science…

But I happen to agree with her, nonetheless. I’m just going to say “it appears to me that humans are a type of animal” and that “it appears to me that animals must have some level of consciousness, based on my own personal observations of their behaviors”.

  • Anti-Crowley

If you really believe that there is scientific proof that all animals are of equal value then I’m not sure where you draw you scientific methodology from.  In fact, I would be willing to bet that Sarkozy would not choose to give her own life or the life of a beloved family member or friend for say a random cockroach.
